Renders and disassembled parts of possible Switch 2 leak online

Images of what are supposedly a factory prototype for the Nintendo Switch 2 alongside a spec sheet have appeared on a Chinese forum.

The renders show the device from all angles and even comparison shots with the original Switch are included. The most notable changes are the large 8 inch screen and two USB Type-C ports on the top and bottom of the device.

Referred to as the "Switch second generation model STP" and "SWITCH2 model STP", the device appears to feature a familiar overall design and detachable joycons but without traditional rails as seen on the originals - perhaps confirming the use of a magnetic solution as per recent rumours?

A spec sheet has also surfaced which appears to detail the above device including hardware IDs. It is said that the device has 12GB of LPDDR5X, 7500 MT/s RAM and 256GB of storage as well as support for HDMI 2.1.

Components:
  • HGU1100: The main gaming console.
  • HGU1110: Left Joy-Con controller.
  • HGU1120: Right Joy-Con controller.
  • HGU1130: Docking station.
Technical Specifications:
  • SoC (CPU+GPU): Model GMLX30-R-A1.
  • Memory: Model MT62F768M64D4EK-026, 6GB LPDDR5X, 7500 MT/s x2 (12GB)
  • Flash Storage: 256GB UFS 3.1, manufactured by Kioxia.
  • Audio Chip: Realtek ALC5658-CG.
  • NFC Reader: NXP PN7160B1HN.
  • Microphone: Model CMB-MIC-X7.
  • Cooling Fans: Models BSM0405HPJH9 and BSM0505HPJQC, with copper heat sinks.
  • Video Signal Conversion: Realtek RTD2175N chip, supporting HDMI 2.1.
  • Network Chip: Realtek RTL8153B-VB-CG for gigabit Ethernet.
  • Microcontroller: STMicroelectronics STM32GOBOCET6.
  • Speaker: MUSE BOX-L and MUSE BOX-R for stereo sound.
These specifications even seem to match up to a previous leak via Famiboards who tracked shipment and customs data between Nintendo, NVIDIA and others to interpret part details sometime ago.

What do you think? Real? Or Switch clone or other copycat device from China or simply an elaborate hoax?

Would you be happy with the Switch 2 if this turns out to be real?

I actually do believe this one, this is way too boring/realistic to be a fake leak and everyone's BS detectors have been on overdrive since the NX days. Seems even more underwhelming than I expected tbh.

Seems like they ditched the IR sensor, not that anyone really cared

For once I actually do hope they are playing it safe. Sure, I’d like a proper D-Pad, more ergonomic design and analogue triggers, but other than that, all I really want from a Switch 2 is more grunt and a higher resolution (preferably OLED) screen.

I’m happy they are increasing base storage, but I’ll be whacking a 2TB Micro SD card in anyway, so it’s not an issue for me personally, but I realise it’s a pain point for some.

I think Ninty nailed the 2-in-1 concept with the first gen Switch, so really all I want is a Switch that can better cope with current and future 3rd party AAA game releases. Do that and I’m a happy camper……. Though I’ll be buying it regardless, gotta have me my Zelda/Mario/Metroid/and the rest, fix.

I still wanna know if the rumors are true it's only coming with an LCD and not an OLED. Would be a silly ass downgrade if so.

... Why would Nintendo make something that looks more like a switch than any other console ever resembled its predecessor?

Oh, it's a nice mockup. Just different enough to be interesting, leaves enough to speculate and dream, does the Nintendo 'behind the tech curve but affordable route'...

Heck, i'm even willing to believe it was a mockup for a switch 1.5 like the other consoles do. But the sequel? No way.

I don't care about the 256gb storage, as SD cards are pretty cheap. I just hope it loads fast, and has faster loading screens.

Seeing how "big" most Switch games are, assuming this isn't fake, 256 is more than fine.
Hell, most people are fine with a 128 card, worst case scenario 256 is more than most people will know what do to with.

In 2024, 2TB is the bare minimum storage for gaming.
256 GB is laughable.
It needs to be affordable for parents to buy as gifts. With the price of portability, as well as Nintendo not taking loses on their consoles, I think it's understandable.
Also I game of 1TB just fine.

256GB for internal storage seems fine for a system that is likely to continue using Game Carts where the majority of games don't have mandatory installation. Games ported from XB1/PS4 are not going to take up as much space because those were designed with duplicate data in mind to get around the slow random-access delays of mechanical drives, having moving parts and whatnot. And games won't be as large as PS5/XSX games because the system isn't designed to push that raw performance. Even XSS games are smaller.
