Renders and disassembled parts of possible Switch 2 leak online

Images of what are supposedly a factory prototype for the Nintendo Switch 2 alongside a spec sheet have appeared on a Chinese forum.

The renders show the device from all angles and even comparison shots with the original Switch are included. The most notable changes are the large 8 inch screen and two USB Type-C ports on the top and bottom of the device.

Referred to as the "Switch second generation model STP" and "SWITCH2 model STP", the device appears to feature a familiar overall design and detachable joycons but without traditional rails as seen on the originals - perhaps confirming the use of a magnetic solution as per recent rumours?

A spec sheet has also surfaced which appears to detail the above device including hardware IDs. It is said that the device has 12GB of LPDDR5X, 7500 MT/s RAM and 256GB of storage as well as support for HDMI 2.1.

Components:
  • HGU1100: The main gaming console.
  • HGU1110: Left Joy-Con controller.
  • HGU1120: Right Joy-Con controller.
  • HGU1130: Docking station.
Technical Specifications:
  • SoC (CPU+GPU): Model GMLX30-R-A1.
  • Memory: Model MT62F768M64D4EK-026, 6GB LPDDR5X, 7500 MT/s x2 (12GB)
  • Flash Storage: 256GB UFS 3.1, manufactured by Kioxia.
  • Audio Chip: Realtek ALC5658-CG.
  • NFC Reader: NXP PN7160B1HN.
  • Microphone: Model CMB-MIC-X7.
  • Cooling Fans: Models BSM0405HPJH9 and BSM0505HPJQC, with copper heat sinks.
  • Video Signal Conversion: Realtek RTD2175N chip, supporting HDMI 2.1.
  • Network Chip: Realtek RTL8153B-VB-CG for gigabit Ethernet.
  • Microcontroller: STMicroelectronics STM32GOBOCET6.
  • Speaker: MUSE BOX-L and MUSE BOX-R for stereo sound.
These specifications even seem to match up to a previous leak via Famiboards who tracked shipment and customs data between Nintendo, NVIDIA and others to interpret part details sometime ago.

What do you think? Real? Or Switch clone or other copycat device from China or simply an elaborate hoax?

Would you be happy with the Switch 2 if this turns out to be real?

not necessarily, all depends on how its made, if translation layers is needed etc.
Yeah but I'm saying this because Nintendo has never made one before. All prior platforms have basically had the older hardware embedded into the newer one. And well it would never be 100% since each game would need to be tested.

For sure! But for example the amazing translation layer for Windows ARM and those Qualcomm devices. It's nuts how good it is. So it's possible for them to implement something like that... but that would cost me so why would they? :P

It's more that they have no reason to Switch away from Nvidia chipsets. Even though I hate Nvidia to the core.

Interesting. I really don't mind a Switch 2, that's more powerful and stuff. IMO everyone complaining about things but my biggest thing is... backwards compatibility pls. That's a must!

If it’s real (and let’s be honest; it’s not real) it makes me more sad for Iwata than ever. I waited 7 years for this shit and it’s basically the same thing. Where’s my VR and smell-o-vision? Icing on the cake would be to launch with Mario Kart 8 4K.

All I want is a clamshell, dual screen console again.

I don't bother playing my Switch games anymore because the N3DS has complete games, free online through Pretendo (which I support monthly, as opposed to paying Nintendo for their unreliable NSO), and a catalog of games whose merits are renowned -- not to mention literal 3D. What's more, I don't feel babied constantly by my 3DS games; while they aren't as unforgiving as older consoles, the balance they strike is much improved, and far more calibrated than games for newer Nintendo hardware.

All of that to say, if this truly is literally a Switch 2 with slightly better RAM, I'll pass, thanks.

I really hope it's not.
If it's really capable of 4K triple A games then this holds only a few games depending on what you install. Go ask my Steam Deck which doesn't even do 4K lol.
Don't even get me started...
Games on this thing will be heavily downgraded because of the outdated hardware (like in 2017 with their "custom tegra cpu"). And they will also do this on their next console.

I do hope these details are true because I have been hoping for a Switch successor that is mostly the same. Closer to the Switch is better than shoehorning gimmicks that make play annoying/uncomfortable/unwieldy. Nintendo needs another win, so I wouldn't be surprised if they play it safe.

I've said this multiple times, but I'm hoping the Switch 2 is named something distinct to avoid another Wii U/3DS marketing disaster.

Honestly, everything I wanted in a Switch 2 is here. More I/O, better joycon support, larger screen. I'm sure there are improvements on the dock as well. hoping there's more *invisible* improvements such as decreased input latency. Default is 4 frames (60fps) right now which is rough.
