Renders and disassembled parts of possible Switch 2 leak online

Images of what are supposedly a factory prototype for the Nintendo Switch 2 alongside a spec sheet have appeared on a Chinese forum.

The renders show the device from all angles and even comparison shots with the original Switch are included. The most notable changes are the large 8 inch screen and two USB Type-C ports on the top and bottom of the device.

Referred to as the "Switch second generation model STP" and "SWITCH2 model STP", the device appears to feature a familiar overall design and detachable joycons but without traditional rails as seen on the originals - perhaps confirming the use of a magnetic solution as per recent rumours?

A spec sheet has also surfaced which appears to detail the above device including hardware IDs. It is said that the device has 12GB of LPDDR5X, 7500 MT/s RAM and 256GB of storage as well as support for HDMI 2.1.

Components:
  • HGU1100: The main gaming console.
  • HGU1110: Left Joy-Con controller.
  • HGU1120: Right Joy-Con controller.
  • HGU1130: Docking station.
Technical Specifications:
  • SoC (CPU+GPU): Model GMLX30-R-A1.
  • Memory: Model MT62F768M64D4EK-026, 6GB LPDDR5X, 7500 MT/s x2 (12GB)
  • Flash Storage: 256GB UFS 3.1, manufactured by Kioxia.
  • Audio Chip: Realtek ALC5658-CG.
  • NFC Reader: NXP PN7160B1HN.
  • Microphone: Model CMB-MIC-X7.
  • Cooling Fans: Models BSM0405HPJH9 and BSM0505HPJQC, with copper heat sinks.
  • Video Signal Conversion: Realtek RTD2175N chip, supporting HDMI 2.1.
  • Network Chip: Realtek RTL8153B-VB-CG for gigabit Ethernet.
  • Microcontroller: STMicroelectronics STM32GOBOCET6.
  • Speaker: MUSE BOX-L and MUSE BOX-R for stereo sound.
These specifications even seem to match up to a previous leak via Famiboards who tracked shipment and customs data between Nintendo, NVIDIA and others to interpret part details sometime ago.

What do you think? Real? Or Switch clone or other copycat device from China or simply an elaborate hoax?

Would you be happy with the Switch 2 if this turns out to be real?

You know what I kinda wonder now that I think about it?
Does the left joy-con have feature parity with the right joy-con? (it looks like it'll get the IR sensor, no clue about NFC)

Thought many of you should've seen something similar to this by now:

Screenshot_20240920-014909.png

Yesterday saw a post stating that this "leak" was a prototype made by an "enthusiast" working in his diy console or something along the lines, can't remember which subreddit was that (and my reddit history is basically porn...so won't find it again)... thus not quite official.

Wouldn't that make sense?

If this leak was official, Nintendo would've taken immediate legal actions by now. Remember when there was a mod for Palworld that basically turned the game into Pokemon with guns? (and literally you played as Ash)... it got taken down in it's entirety 2 hours after the fact.

Why would this leak be the exception?

I'm calling this fake. And y'all better wait till late December or early 2025 for an official announcement.

Regular switch devkit has 6gb and OLED has 8gb
Maybe the consoles are different, but the handheld devkits were on par with retail units or slightly weaker. I know the DS one was a lot more powerful (comparatively) but that monstrosity utilized proprietary emulation.

If the devkits for the Switch have 1.5-2x the RAM, maybe that's one of the reasons so many games run like crap.

usually dev kits have more ram to account for the debugging software running on top and the fact the builds have debug symbols

Interesting "trigger" placement.
The triggers look normally placed. are you talking about the buttons under it?

I've seen someone on another platform claim to make the renders. They seem easy to fake, since anyone can make a CAD file. It looks like someone just modeled out some new Joy-cons to attach to an OLED switch

Could be but I doubt it, why the hell would someone go all the way and make their own project have Nintendo style features like the player indicator and +/- and the IR on the joycon. That's just asking for trouble from the ninjas.

That ZenDeck guy is making his own console but that features his own design language and not Nintendo's for example

Plus it has that rumoured magnetic attachment rail.

If nintendo go after this then it would cause a Streisand effect.

I think it's real and to quote the X Files, I want to believe

so is this upgared switch or a new console.
I expected a new console after 7 years not another revision. Disapointed.

Not sure what you're honestly expecting, did you really think Nintendo was gonna try to squeeze the power of a PS5 into a handheld? Do you REALLY think that would realistically have great battery life? Or that it's even possible to scale down tech like that at a reasonable price in 2024?

I wasnt expecting anything from nintendo, thats why im saying this.
Just a usual nintendo BS.
Also, the name and console is unoriginal, something that Nintendo is not known for.
Each new console im excited about what they will release. This is the only time i'm not (if this is true).

not gonna lie, this is probably the one time were i actually preferred that Nintendo played it safe, and i think a lot of people can agree with me here

the Switch is like the only time where their silly gimmick every gen was actually practical for once, why NOT build off that? Especially if it'll be backwards compatible with countless other games from it's previous library

I don't need Nintendo ruining their next system forcing something stupid like a tablet or motion waggle that's just gonna get in the way of making great games or turn off third-party devs. And I'd rather not make them try to play catch up with the big boys and spend a decade making only 3 first-party AAAA titles that cost billions of dollars
