Renders and disassembled parts of possible Switch 2 leak online

Images of what are supposedly a factory prototype for the Nintendo Switch 2 alongside a spec sheet have appeared on a Chinese forum.

The renders show the device from all angles and even comparison shots with the original Switch are included. The most notable changes are the large 8 inch screen and two USB Type-C ports on the top and bottom of the device.

Referred to as the "Switch second generation model STP" and "SWITCH2 model STP", the device appears to feature a familiar overall design and detachable joycons but without traditional rails as seen on the originals - perhaps confirming the use of a magnetic solution as per recent rumours?

A spec sheet has also surfaced which appears to detail the above device including hardware IDs. It is said that the device has 12GB of LPDDR5X, 7500 MT/s RAM and 256GB of storage as well as support for HDMI 2.1.

Components:
  • HGU1100: The main gaming console.
  • HGU1110: Left Joy-Con controller.
  • HGU1120: Right Joy-Con controller.
  • HGU1130: Docking station.
Technical Specifications:
  • SoC (CPU+GPU): Model GMLX30-R-A1.
  • Memory: Model MT62F768M64D4EK-026, 6GB LPDDR5X, 7500 MT/s x2 (12GB)
  • Flash Storage: 256GB UFS 3.1, manufactured by Kioxia.
  • Audio Chip: Realtek ALC5658-CG.
  • NFC Reader: NXP PN7160B1HN.
  • Microphone: Model CMB-MIC-X7.
  • Cooling Fans: Models BSM0405HPJH9 and BSM0505HPJQC, with copper heat sinks.
  • Video Signal Conversion: Realtek RTD2175N chip, supporting HDMI 2.1.
  • Network Chip: Realtek RTL8153B-VB-CG for gigabit Ethernet.
  • Microcontroller: STMicroelectronics STM32GOBOCET6.
  • Speaker: MUSE BOX-L and MUSE BOX-R for stereo sound.
These specifications even seem to match up to a previous leak via Famiboards who tracked shipment and customs data between Nintendo, NVIDIA and others to interpret part details sometime ago.

What do you think? Real? Or Switch clone or other copycat device from China or simply an elaborate hoax?

Would you be happy with the Switch 2 if this turns out to be real?

I think the dock will be the more interesting component to the console
A while ago Nintendo filed a patent for these docks:

So maybe one of these is Switch 2's dock? Although it can be just random prototypes, as Nintendo made patents for hinged Joy-Cons, detachable dual-screen console, touch controller and many more in the past, which were never used.

The 3DS had no internal storage, the Wii U had 8 and 32gb of internal storage, the Switch has 32gb of internal storage. Why are you all surprised about this rumor of having 256gb of storage? Especially when you’re going to get a micro SD card for it anyway. Storage isn’t cheap, especially when this thing is definitely going to cost less than $400.

If you’re worried about COD games not fitting in, don’t worry: they’re not getting on the switch 2.
The 3DS has 1GB of internal storage. Wtf are you talking about?

That bottom one at least has been around since before the Switch released.

I'm glad to see the giant bezel is almost fully gone. If this is a similar size as the OG Switch then it looks like the battery is about the same size as the Switch Lite's, we could assume that it has a lower power draw than the OG Switch which means it's not going to be a huge upgrade specs wise, which is kind of disappointing but absolutely expected.
That means battery life is also not going to be improved much, if at all. I'd rather have a slightly bigger battery personally, the OG Switch battery life feels just a bit too short, I'd like something closer to 4 hours than 3.

Not a betting man, however I wonder what odds on this being the first unhackable Nintendo console

Surely they've learnt from all lessons of the past, this time

No internal user accessible storage. It's only for firmware/system apps, you can't put games on it.
AR Games, Face Raiders, and Streetpass Mii Plaza would like a word.

If it’s real (and let’s be honest; it’s not real) it makes me more sad for Iwata than ever. I waited 7 years for this shit and it’s basically the same thing. Where’s my VR and smell-o-vision? Icing on the cake would be to launch with Mario Kart 8 4K.
The real tragedy that came from Iwata's death was the death of Club Nintendo.

It's still not a lot. The largest Switch games are 32GB, a ton of them are 16GB, and Switch 2 games will be even bigger. 256GB is enough to tide you over until you get an SD card but on its own it could use a few more gigs.
I highly doubt switch 2 games are going to go past 64gb. Unless they can cram in a ps5 like SoC which Nintendo has never been famous for current gen graphics.

I mean still... $90 added to a $299 console is really not horrible. And that's only for people who are going to go over the 256GB mark. Maybe some, but idk, works for me.
I mean the new "express" micro SD cards which it is rumored to use, they are way more than $90 for a 1tb.

There are already a few games close to that. Then add next gen features like improved graphics, and yea they can definitely be that big.

Thought I recalled something about Macronix a year or so back where they were testing a 96-layer 3D NAND that was hitting around 128GB, with good speeds (supposedly 2GB/s sequential read?), and was relatively cheap to make.
