Depends upon the game. I would certainly not remove them wholesale and burn discs to test with. If a game asks for a file and it does not come back then crashing and erroring out at very much options.

Generally what people would do is find or create the smallest possible thing (a few frames of all black or something) and insert those with all the same names, or do something called relinking where you instead tell the game to look at another video within the game (go with the smallest one if that is what you are heading towards) and then remove the now extraneous files.
... that is perhaps not the clearest analogy. Games usually use something called pointers which do much as they sound like and point towards files/memory/sections/whatever. I usually compare them to the contents page of a book. If you change the contents page of a book so the chapters of 20 pages it thinks are at pages 80, 100 and 120 to all point for 20 pages at 60 then you can rip 80 through 139 out of the book and if someone is going by the contents page it is still all there as far as it is concerned.
Alternatively find the smallest video, copy it as many times as you need and rename all the copies to the file names that were originally there. 40 lots of a 100 megs is smaller than 40 lots of more than 100 but it is still not as small as a single count of 100 megs like you would get with relinking, or maybe a couple of megs if you manage to be able to generate a compatible handful of black frames video.
