Just look forward to Gameboy and NES games.
Maybe in 2030 when the 8DS is released and 3DS games are virtual console, we can pirate those and no devs will care :>

Well not "pirated"games but there are roughly 10 titles you can install for free now :P

These are still usually pirated games. If these so called "legit" .cia's are allowed to be run, I think not allowing other roms to be ran is sort of a double standard, but ultimately, it's not my call...Also I have my thoughts on allowing emulators (which are mainly used strictly for piracy) to be ran, but blocking 3ds roms from being ran as well......also not my call though.

It's the only way Roxas can allow the manual installation of .CIAs while still allowing purchased apps and games to run. I'm sure if he could block the installation of the "legit" .CIAs, he would

Yeah, and I totally agree, but seeing that people will now effectively be able to run pirate games on Roxas's firmware (one game or the entire collection, really shouldn't matter very much) the idea of protecting it from running dirty, pirate games, is sorta shot out the window....especially since the so called "legit" cia's make up the majority of the games people would want to run pirate anyways, i'm sure.

Yeah, but at least he's protecting the vast majority of the games from piracy. I support his decision, personally

It is what it is. Personally I'd be stoked about the idea of being able to run my games that I sank a good 20+ hours into dumping and have all up and running in palentine, without having to deal with the flakiness of palentine cfw.

EDIT: Sorry, I know I'm getting a little off topic now....

And even if it could be spoofed there would be no point since the installed CIA would not run since it not properly signed

Seems you missed the last couple pages of the thread, where it was stated that he's working on a homebrew loader that WILL support unsigned .cia's but will somehow prevent rom loading...

yes, maybe, but Fantasy Life 2 and Layton 7 are gonna be released for Phones and not 3DS. this problem begin since the CFW leak and then the people play Fantasy Life with DLC and all for free, and it was a just released game. Since then, almost all the games are published with high keys and games with high keys are not loadable with CFW, so YES, nintendo and the developers dont want piracy.

keeping the F.Life example, all the community here was talking about the game and the great it become, but did you see the sell charts? it was not a top-sale game in Europe and USA, so, yes, I care about the risks of this.

and cuban, and most of cubans will say that, like is for me, original game carts are too expensive for us, but think: its better to buy good games and play it then buy a digital mobile application/game that will cost as a retail game and also you must pay for the 100kbps internet connection for 4.50CUC that are like 4.80 USD an hour for download the game and it will cost at least 2 hours for a good game. YES, internet in Cuba is expensive and slow.

I know what i am talking about

this it is dangerous dude

And this community as a whole makes up all of probably 1 percent of the 3ds's market share....if palentine's firmware didn't exist, people would just go through the other routes available to load roms, if it was important enough to them (read - SUPPORTING COMPANIES WHO ONLY EXIST TO PROFIT FROM PIRACY - Gateway, Sky3DS, etc...). Piracy will happen regardless, it's just a question of how. Personally, I'd rather have the entire flash cart industry fall the heck apart, and let the pirates do their pirating and not have to support them in the process.

EDIT: also on notes of palentine firmware, there's actually only a handful of people that have set it up, because of the sheer difficulty of setting it up and getting it up and running correctly (it doesn't boot consistently, there's some steps in the installation process that just arbitrarily don't work, it's a rather long and complex process to set up...) so your argument doesn't really hold much weight.

always its good to have a backup of a game. gateway and the other cards must let the user to backup his game and then, write the cart id in a whitelist inside the flashcart so no one will be able to easily edit it. this will be a really BACKUP LOADER Flashcart, but they dont want to create a flashcart like that cause they will not sell anything

Mobile is a more dangerous platform... Almost as dangerous as PC...
.IPA files... Simple to download and install; Jailbreak, Install AppSync for your version of iOS, Install your .IPA of choice, Done.
.APK files... Simpler than .IPA; Download, Trust apps from unknown sources, Install, Done.

Get my point? 3DS is mockable when it comes to the piracy race... Now then, let's shut up and wait for Roxas75 to release 2.4 and be grateful for what it gives us...

I don't think pirated 3DS cia's would even run if they're installed with BBB, FBI, BRM, DEV, ETC.
I'm sure Roxas75 has that figured out, and I'm sure the properly signed ones working is not a big deal (I don't think it could differentiate between a legit cia installed in BBB,FBI,BRM,DEV,ETC (or BFBDE for short), and one installed from the eshop, but what do I know? lol)

I'll add all the possible checks i can to check warez roms.
If some of you will notice that some homebrews doesn't boot/install, i'll probably make a whitelist for them :)

If Roxas can make a whitelist for homebrew, then he can just as easily make a blacklist preventing so-called "legit" .cia installation.

A simple checksum based blacklist would suffice, there's only two dozen or so "legit" .cia files available.
