(so no restart required when willing to play another game).
    • are also compatible with the latest Citra builds.

  • In order for enabled cheat codes to take effect, depending on the code enabled,
    some codes require you to:
    • Use a button combination.
      • These codes are marked with a *
and list the button combination to be used between (parentheses).
    • Trigger a screen transition.
      Accomplishable by, for example:
      • Switching between Worlds on World Map
(if more then one World opened).
      • Entering and exiting a level.
        • Some codes require this because of checks used in the code.
        • For exiting a level, any of the following options are valid:
          • Die in level.
          • Pause and return to map.
          • Finish a level.
  • In order to be successfully disabled,
the following cheat codes need to be disabled when not in a level:
    • Always Shoot Fireballs
    • Always Shoot Gold Fireballs
    • Rapid Fireballs
    • Infinite Time
    • All Quick Presets using any of the above cheat codes.
  • All codes can be used in all levels (including Bowser Castle).
About
( TLDR: Happy cheating! )

Hi all, first post here.

I searched/put together (or for some codes: edited/ported) cheats
with some new & unique codes for:
  • New Super Mario Bros 2 - Special Edition (Europe)
  • New Super Mario Bros 2 - Gold Edition (USA)
These cheats can be used with CFW Luma3DS (at least 9.1 or higher),
without the need of BootNTR Selector or CTRPluginFramework.

For more information (for example: installation instructions, compatibility, ...)
and in order to download the files, please follow the link(s) listed above.

I did this out of pure fun and interest to find out about how a cheating process works, not necessarily to play a game.
I learned quite a lot in the process starting from scratch (as in: zero knowledge about Hex,...).

Please feel free to test / tryout these cheats. I'd be happy to find out what you think of them/if they all work fine for you.
Also, feel free to improve where and if needed.

[GAME=/game/new-super-mario-bros-2.1080]New Super Mario Bros. 2[/GAME]

To whom may concern, I uploaded my notes with findings and thought process (see link above). Please note I did not intend to make these public, so the structure of that text document isn't well-structured. Probably not all information is useful/correct, although it can be a bit of help (as in: an additional resource) for those learning how to cheat.

  • After intensive checking and optimization:
    • No notable crashes occurred.
    • No notable issues or bugs encountered.
    • Marked as Stable Release as of version 2.1.
    • More information can be found in my Findings & Thought Process notes.
  • I do strongly recommend not to enable all cheat codes at once and occasionally disable any cheat codes that aren't of use anymore (f.e. unlock/set/reset codes, ...).
  • Should a crash occur or a bug/issue be found despite all care taken:
    • Please let me know in a comment together with steps how to reproduce.

Hehe, yeah that time code is a tricky one after a boss fight. You could wait forever should you have forgotten you enabled that cheat ;).

( Update: fixed as of version 1.2: no need to disable cheat anymore after a boss fight. )

Regarding the cheat codes you posted:
  • [Always Invincible]
    • This code basically is the same address I found,
though set to another value (being time remaining).
      • I named my code: [Always Star Power (Invincible+Speed)] .
    • I intentionally set that value quite low, so when you disable the cheat, the Star Power wears off quickly (after about a second, with the wear off sound playing as a hint the code is turned off).
      • In the code you gave me, it would take way more time for it to wear off
(which could make users think they didn't turn it off or turning it off doesn't work).
    • What I did note however, based on your question, is that neither this code nor mine work in [6-6] Bowser Castle.
However, you can use one of the following cheat codes I provided that do work in that level, making your character invincible as well:
      • (R+Up) White Tanooki Mario/Luigi
      • Always White Tanooki Suit (Invincible)
    • Furthermore, the code works fine in all other levels (1-1 to 6-5) and side levels (like Rainbow levels, ...).
  • [Multi-Jump]
    • This is the code I found and reused as well (I put credits on the GitHub readme page).
      • I renamed that code to [Midair Jump] .
      • I did successfully port this code however to the European version
(those USA cheat code searcher peeps never think about Europeans with their many languages ;p).
    • Works in all levels (including [6-6] Bowser Castle).
  • [Infinite Timer]
    • Can't remember for sure anymore, although I tested this one and something wasn't quite right with this one, so I searched/created my own.
      • I named my code: [Infinite Time] .
      • Found 3 values that store time (one long value and 2 shorter ones).
        • Didn't quite test further, although I'm sure at least one of those shorter ones is merely for display purposes on screen).
      • I provided extra checks: if the timer is set to 0x190 (which is the case for example in Toad houses or on World Map), this code does nothing.
  • [Gold Mario] + other Instant PowerUps codes (including the Bowser Castle ones)
    • Not sure anymore if I tested this one, although I did find and reused similar if not the same codes you found.
    • I did make some changes to these codes:
      • Changed key combination to be a bit more logical and inline with other codes I set up.
      • Changed names to be a bit more detailed and display key combination.
      • Merged the codes for normal levels and Bowser Castle level into one code (checks included), which I found to be a bit more user-friendly.
  • [500 Star Coins]
    • This code basically is the same address I found for the USA region,
      though set to another value.
      • 219 because I searched the web in order to see how many star coins are actually obtainable.
      • This is without Moon coins included though, although 219 star coins should suffice to open all extra pathways.
      • Ported to European region as well, which has a different address.
    • As a side note: I do prefer the [3 Big Coins Collected] code I searched/created which registers the 3 Star or Moon coins for a level after completing that particular level, keeping the star count a bit more realistic.
  • [Max P Gauge]
    • Didn't test this one, although I tried similar other codes which didn't work, so I searched/created my own.
      • I named my code: [Always Full Tanooki Pwing Gauge] .
        • It does edit more values than the code you provided... so perhaps I'll test the one you provided at a later time.
        • It works on both European and USA region.
      • Tip: I found searching for and creating this code to be a recommended exercise for people trying to learn how to find and create their own cheats. Remember noting that in my shared 'Findings & Thoughts' document as well.
Regarding code improvements:
  • I edited my first post below the Original Post (which I posted by accident and I couldn't delete it... why o board admins, why? :P).
    • In short: for the moment, I'm not quite sure where (seemingly) random crashes come from. Could use some help here.
  • I'm curious about the way member dsrules found his [No Hat] code.
    • Link to his NTR plugin release, which is a good one, especially for opening all worlds and rainbow levels, which I didn't bother to find cheats for since that would make finishing the game even way more too easy for players.
    • I've searched/tested a very long time for this one to work. Really thought it would have been easier. I did find only one value when I first searched it and I remember it worked by simply editing that one value (found it one line above the Mario/Luigi search results), though I must have typed the wrong address in my Findings & Thoughts document and wasn't able to use/find it again later on (being way to busy with the workaround I was working on).
    • The way I did it (as a workaround): basically it tells the game to:
      • At World Map:
        • For A) small and B) big versions of Mario/Luigi:
          • A) Hide the hat texture.
          • B) Show the hair texture.
        • In-Game:
          • Likewise.
          • Difficulty: offset changes for different levels (world map is always the same though).
I couldn't find one valid pointer for all levels, so I searched the above for multiple levels in different worlds, hoping I found all of possible offsets.
I hope this answers some of your remarks/questions. Otherwise, feel free to let me know.
Thanks by the way for your feedback.

Version 2.2 coming up soon, adding a few more cheats, changes and enhancements.

The upcoming release may be the final release for this game, unless I discover more interesting addresses/values.
Should anyone have any feedback/suggestions/remarks/issues, now would be the best time to post.

Anyway, it has been a fun ride finding and creating cheat codes for this game.
I sincerely hope you all like toying with the game using the cheats provided
and that it may reflect a bit of the joy I had tinkering with them.

If possible, might need to figure out Donkey Kong Country Returns. Seems 1 or more cause the System to lock up on Luma. I seriously miss Gateway

Can't promiss anything on that matter, Smoker... I don't know if I'll ever focus on that game.
