MazeLand is a custom modded save file for Animal Crossing: New Leaf that is exclusively built around exploring a giant maze with another player.

    Objective
The objective is to find one of each of the the different kinds of fruit, and make it to the bottom of the maze before the other player.

The map has eight different sections, separated by color.

    Rules
    • Both players must start in front of the entrance of the Train Station. Both players begin exploring at the same time, usually starting with a player-governed count down from three.
    • To win, a player must make it to the dock at the bottom of the maze with one:
      • Apple
      • Orange
      • Pear
      • Peach
      • Cherry
      • Coconut
      • Durian
      • Lemon
      • Lychee
      • Mango
      • Persimmon
      • Banana
    • When a player reaches the dock with one of every kind of fruit (a total of 12 different kinds), they will announce to the other player that they have finished.
    • Players are not allowed to hold more than one of the same kind of fruit at a time. If a player is holding more than one of a kind of fruit, they must drop the other as soon as possible. If a player declares that they are finished, holding more than one of a kind of fruit will result in disqualification, and the other player will win by default.
    • Moving fruits around during play to confuse the other player is allowed, but knowingly holding fruits for a long period of time is not.
    Download
You can download the save from the GBATemp attachment at the bottom of this post, or use the mirrors below.

    Installation

0a. Install JK's Save Manager if you don't already have it, and place the supplied 'MazeLand' folder containing the save into the "/JKSV/Saves/Animal_Crossing__New_Leaf/" folder on your 3DS's SD card. If it doesn't exist, create it. The path to the MazeLand garden.dat file should be "/JKSV/Saves/Animal_Crossing__New_Leaf/MazeLand/garden.dat".
0b. Open JK's Save Manager, then select if your copy of AC:NL is a cartridge, or a CIA. If it is a CIA, select 'Animal Crossing: New Leaf' from the list of games. If it isn't there, go back to the first menu and select 'Refresh Games'. If you want to back up your town, select 'Export Save', 'New', then type a name before you import MazeLand.
0c. Select 'Import Save', then 'MazeLand'. The save should now be imported.

    1. Upon starting the game, you will be greeted by a bunch of Tangys glitching all over the place. This is supposed to happen. Press A, then select 'Continue', then 'Host'.
    2. Set the in-game clock to June 1, 2016 (6/1/16), at 12PM. I felt this date was the easiest to remember, while still remaining Summertime. If you don't know how to do this, choose "I need help first..." when talking to Isabelle, then "Set the time."
    3. When the game begins, open the mailbox and read the letters.
    4. Follow the path to the Station to open the gates, and allow the other player into MazeLand.
    5. Inform the other player of the game's objective, and with both players standing at the entrance of the Station, begin the hunt!
    6. If you want to play again, reset the map by re-importing the save file with JKSM.

Big thanks to Marc Robledo for his incredible ACNL Editor, and Kaphotics for NLSE.

If you run into any errors in the map or in the rules, please let me know and I'll fix it. Suggestions are absolutely welcome, as well. Have fun!

I suggest using NLSE; a downloadable save editor. It has nearly the same controls as the HTML5 editor, though, so you may not like it.

This is really neat! I'll try it out with a friend once I stop caring about my current town and want to reset it.
Also, I love the glitched Tangy (Tangies?). :P She's my favorite villager, aside from Pietro.

I've had a lot of trouble with that, too. I have to write down coordinates and measure exactly how large buildings are in the game so I can be sure that I know where they're going to land when I boot up the game.
It takes a lot of effort. Someone should make a mod of NLSE that works with "layers", where one layer shows the map with all the objects (rocks, trees, things like that), and another shows all the buildings with their individual bounding boxes to help visualize how big they are. Editing building coordinates visually make town editing far, far easier.

The reason I started this mod was because I was experimenting with writing my own editor that did exactly this, but Marc and Kaphotics did such great jobs with their editors that I ended up just taking the small amount of measurements I needed to streamline the creation of this save file. Perhaps I'll create a guide on how to find the building measurements and help visualize how the coordinate system works later.

I included in the installation instructions a guide on how to back up your ACNL save to a separate folder that you can restore whenever you want using JK's Save Manager.

Oh, nice. Thanks. I was skimming because I'm preparing for an event in Guild Wars 2 currently, and I was concerned with having to deal with the "Not current save" thing, which I'm just too lazy for. (I know it's easy, and I've done it twice, but I'd rather not do it again.)
I'll be trying this with a friend soon. :)

JK's Save Manager automatically patches the anti-savegame-restore protection key. It's pretty dope.

Whaaaaaaaa?? That's amazing. I guess that explains why the game didn't yell at me when I accidentally injected my save over my friend's save. Too bad it didn't stop my friend from yelling at me. :( Fortunately, I keep recent backups of friend's save games too, since they don't have HB access.
Thank you so much for letting me know that JKSM did that.

@Kaphotics When I looked at your NLSE GITHUB page, I was shocked to see my town!! I guess my saves are more handier than I thought, people actually use them. It's literally my main town and everything! The save I seriously played on without save editing. Cool stuff man

This looks fun! I really want to play it with my sister now...

I'm not sure if this would help you, and it's been about a year since I used Marc's editor so there could be major changes by now, but I always prepped my town before I started by using coins (100 so there isn't much of a loss since i just delete them when i'm done). If I move houses around, I'd put a coin at each corner of the house, and then make a coin outline where I want to move the house to. For villager houses, the coordinate you want to edit is in the middle, I believe.

(Not sure how the seeder works, I'm sorry).

I apologize if I explained it badly, but that method helped me visualize where things in my town are. It can get kind of complicated if you're like me and forget you moved something, but..

You place 100 Bells wherever you want something to spawn, and when you activate the seeder, it turns every occurrence of 100 Bell bags into whatever item ID you give it.

Oh, I actually didn't know how the seeder worked though, so I'm glad it got explained. But yeah, don't want to go too off topic, but if you ever felt like messing with the editor I thought I'd share something that makes it easier for me to get a feel where things in my town are.

this is really cool - it must have taken a while to plan the maze.
it would be really cool those with ntr, generating a new one.
ntr plugins can be really powerful since we can write it in c, so it's viable if anyone wanted to do it!

Although the idea sounds fun and I'd like to try it, am I certain that I won't lose my original save if I backup? I had too many memories in my normal save and about 15 days worth of playing (that many hours were put in to it) and it was my first game on the 3DS.

backup your save, it's good to do anyway :)

Thanks, I'll try to find a way so I'm fully sure that nothing would go corrupted if I tried. :) Again, thanks for the advice.

Use the .cia version of JK's save manager. It works every time no corruption.

My 3DS is on 11.0 and above so I don't think I can install .cias of anything with the hax I'm currently using, freakyhax.

EDIT: I made my own maze on the Island for now using the Ram Editor (NLSE) but I'll be sure to try this game when I can!
