The fact that this worked on my first try makes me extremely happy, I'm getting better at this;

Also decided to fix Odin for good measure;

For those who understand hex save files, is Fates's save structure essentially the same? Asking because it'd make @Olmectron 's job a lot easier, assuming he's still making the Fates editor.

So, my friend got me an early copy of Birthright, naturally, the first thing I did was, dump the game's romfs.

I compared the chapter file A001 from GameData/Dispos, I compared my Birthright NA copy file vs my Japanese SE file, this was the chapter where I had previously added Odin, and,

So what you're saying is...if I could get my hands on some way to extract the save file from my JP digital copy (if there is one...) I could import it into my US physical version, so I don't have to grind all my units again!? If that's the case...I won't be gone for as long as I had thought.

Yeah, SaveDataBackup or sdvt through Homebrew seems to work with Birthright with no issue.

Will it work with digital though...that's my real question.
Digital players might get screwed out of using SVTD since Nintendo's been using that 9.6 encryption more. If you use CFW you have no issues, but if you don't want to get CFW don't get the digital version of the game.

Edit: Is it SVDT or SDVT?

So, it seems that save data for Fates is universal, as in, any save works on all versions provided you have the content needed.

Take my Japanese SE for example, used svdt to extract the saves from the cartridge, used svdt to inject it into my NA Birthright Cartridge, works like a charm.

My friend has Conquest (NA) with Birthright DLC purchased, copied my save onto his game and it also worked.

So not only is the romfs file structures for the games the exact same across all versions, most of the files are also the exact same, the only differences so far seem to be the translated text files (obviously) and very few changed mechanics such as the Face rubbing/skinship, every other file is an exact match with the same structure and everything as I had pointer here.

And that's really cool for everyone. ROM hacks and save editing will be the same for every version, Japanese or western. I would only expect the European versions to be the same.

Now that you say that the entire European version will be completely rebuilt to make ROM hacking a nightmare.
