Hacking Region free Wii games problem (Preloader 0.29 on 4.0U)

On a updated Wii with System Menu 4.0U (417), Preloader 0.29 and cIOSCORP wads installed I am unable to get the region free wii games patch to work correctly.

Symptoms:

• NTSC original and NTSC backups play correctly from the disc channel
• PAL original and PAL backups play only through Wiigators 0.3g backup loader, disc channel is unable to recognize the disc.

I would expect that the "Region free Wii games" patch in Preloader 0.29 should allow PAL originals and backups to load correctly through the disc channel.
However enabling or disabling the patch changes nothing.

On Wiibrew.org (old page version) the hacks.ini for USA 4.0 contains the following code for "Region free Wii games":

For some reason on the secondary values the hexidecimal prefix of "0x" is missing, but even after adding that the "Region free Wii games" hack does not seem to work as expected.

If either the Starpatch or Preloader region free hacks on 4.0E work correctly, then it should be possible to replicate it to 4.0U.

Can anyone confirm this working through Starpatch or Preloader on EUR (4.0)?

Nope. Same problem on 4.0E upgraded with custom fw from 3.2E

In 3.2E I could play NTSC games direct from disc channel now those games dont work in 4.0E with Preloader .29.

I'm also after the unlock for saves in preloader .29 PAL. It's available for NTSC but I cant find the PAL version.

Is that not the "Remove NoCopy Protection"? That one is listed for 4.0E and 4.0U on Wiibrew.org

ARCmod05a had extensive and enhanced patches to the system menu that allowed for the only true region free backup play from the sysmenu on a 3.2 softmod.

these patches have not been reproduced in any form, and certainly not for 4.0

oddly enough, the source is readily available, so why the full extent of the patches has not been explored/extrapolated is beyond me.

I have obtained the app files for system menus 3.2 and 4.0, both USA (289) and EUR (290). I'll see what ARCmod05a does and if that can be replicated properly to 4.0U (417) and 4.0E (418).
I've got an IDA disassembly dump, but I cannot find Sir_Kane's SEL loader anywhere, as mentioned on Wiibrew.org, having that might speed up the process.

Any link to a copy of ARCmod05a or any other patch which works on 3.2x? For example does Preloader region free work on 3.2x?

i think that the enhanced region free mod of ARCmod5a is the only one that evr worked

good luck on porting/applying it to 4.0

Ok, I got the Any Region Changer 1.1b Mod 05 sources. As soon as I get some time I will check what can be done.

A quick peek indeed shows the Any Region Changer patches in the decrypted 3.2U (289) menu.
Once disassembled it will be possible to tell if the checks remained mostly the same and can be re-applied to 4.0U (417)

I don't know what ARCmod5a is, but I do know that full region free disc channel loading is possible on 3.2 with Any Region Changer (and Starfall type hacks installed), CIOScorp, and preloader installed.

As mentioned it is not working on 4.0U for me (and others apparently).
Now with your feedback of it working fine on 4.0E, we could look at the 4.0E patches and compare them to 4.0.

Can you confirm the Region Free patch you are using which is working for 4.0E is the following?

Please try by loading up an out of region game with only that hack enabled. It might be that the "Force Disc Region" hack is already needed.
Can you let me know which hacks need to be enabled for out of region games to work from the disc channel?

the patch value from ARC1.1_mod5 was tested as a patch for preloader, but it never worked, the only way to do this, is to completely port ARC1.1_mod5 to FW's 4.0, good luck guys..!!
