Hello everyone! I'm new here. I hope you had a wonderful Pride Month!
I just wanted to share something with you all (and ask a question)
This year was the first time I celebrated Pride with my friends, people I've only met recently. It's funny how life works. A year ago, I was deep into modding PlayStation 2 game textures, remastering Shadow of the Colossus, and creating custom skins for the friends I made along the way. I initially thought most of the people I’d meet would be straight guys around my age, but to my surprise, most of them turned out to be women and trans folks, and mostly all part of the rainbow community!
This unexpected diversity made me appreciate the SotC community even more, realizing it wasn’t as old school as I had thought. It reminded me of a time many years ago when I showed the game to a friend. After seeing the long intro, he jokingly said, "This is gay, lmao," and left. Inspired by that, I made a rainbow UI mod based on his comment, and it sparked positive DMs from my new friends. It was then I learned how little gestures can make a big impact.
I had forgotten about that until yesterday, when I posted a picture on Reddit of the SotC main character wearing a rainbow. A civil war erupted in the comments (though the hurtful comments were eventually deleted). I was so confused—nothing in the post suggested it was a Pride thing, but it seems some people fear the rainbow
A friend explained to me that this is an everyday thing for all of you.
I've never really cared much about this kind of drama, but now I feel compelled to support the community. So, I'm asking for your ideas—what small changes in old games could make a positive impact regarding inclusion? I don’t mean just slapping a rainbow PNG on something, like companies do, but genuinely adding inclusive elements to old games to make my new friends feel welcomed and valued. Any thoughts? Or any LGBTQIA+ games to take inspiration from?
I would absolutely love to create custom skins for PlayStation and Nintendo games! But I only know le rainbow and the trans flag (*ᴗ͈ˬᴗ͈)ꕤ*.゚
