I just bought it yesterday on the 6th, and the order on the website still says it's processing. I've heard that they ship faster to the west coast (which is where I am), since that's where their warehouse is or something, so I guess delivery time will vary.
Have you checked what you can get an new one locally for? What was your total with taxes and shipping ? A new XL from Amazon is $167 with no tax or shipping.

All the local retailers around my area sell it at the retail price, which is around $174. My total after tax and shipping was $150 from Nintendo. I checked the Amazon one, and while the shipping is free, I've already ordered the one from Nintendo. Worse case scenario is, the one I get is not below 9.2, and I'll just resell it on eBay, since Nintendo doesn't take refunds on refurbished stuff. OR, I return it back to Nintendo with the warranty and hope they exchange it and give me a different one, hopefully one that isn't updated.

and US costumers, after a certain price, have free shipping
It is usually over $25 for free shipping. I have Prime and average about 2k a year there just for household shit. For about a year they had my dog's food for the same price as the pet store 8 miles away. 33lb bags of dog food delivered to my door for cheaper than I could go pick it up for.

I would assume the refurbished units would come with what ever firmware that was out at the time that particular unit was refurbished. There isn't any way to know for sure when that was. So it's a real risky shot in the dark buying one direct from Nintendo if you intend to use a Gateway on it.

I doubt Nintendo would have them go back into their existing stock of fixed 3DS's and update them. That's additional overhead and overtime for employees and Nintendo would not go out of their way and incur the extra costs of doing so for an already discounted stock of old 3DS units that will likely be discontinued soon. :P

Either way, I wouldn't really recommend buying a refurbished unit from Nintendo anyway. You are basically playing Russian roulette while blindfolded. :P

Thanks for your input. Problem is, I already bought it. Most people have said the same thing in that Nintendo probably wouldn't go back to their already-refurbished units just to update them, so I hope that's the case. What would the firmware be if I were to buy a brand new one from, say, Amazon?

It is highly unlikely any brand new units bought retail would come with anything greater then 9.2 firmware. Most likely you'll get something on 6.x or 7.x firmware at the latest. 4.x systems were the ones that are hard to find when buying brand new. But the new Gateway update means that finding one on 4.x is no longer necessary. Nintendo will likely cease producing classic 3DS/3DS XL units before they ever have a chance of being shipped out with 9.3+ already on them. So you are definitely safe to buy a brand new one from a retail store or a site like Amazon. Just don't buy them direct from Nintendo though. ;)

Don't do that. They will almost always send you one that will be on latest firmware since they'll just do a warrenty repair on it (and their repair technicians are already instructed to update console to latest firmware at some stage in the repair process), or check it and see nothing is wrong and just send the same unit back to you.

Just call them and cancel the order. If they can't cancel the shipping in time request a RMA and send it back. All you are out this $10 return shipping.

Thanks for the advice. I think I'll just wait it out until the unit arrives, and hope that luck is on my side. If not, I'll just resell it or something and get one from Amazon or ebay.

Worst case scenario you can resell your GW for a good price, considering the fact that GW prices are rising up. You might even find someone willing to trade a Sky3DS for your Gateway straight.

I think I might have to go that route. Do you know where/who I can sell it to? Maybe a forum or something? I don't have 100 posts so I can't use the one on this forum.
