Hello everyone! I just registered looking for help.... ;) I'm a Nintendo fan from Italy.

I never been interested in programming or hacking, so consider me a total illiterate about this.

After a system transfer between my old 3ds xl and my new 3ds xl (which worked fine) I lost the data on my sd moving its content to the pc (I did "cut - paste" and then an error occoured). The sd stopped working and the pc can no more read it. Part of the content was however moved correctly to the pc, including digital games and saves.

It was a tragedy for me when I tried this content on the new console and it was unable to read it. I lost saves for more than 700 hours of playtime (about 80 games)....... :(
The transfer of my NNID was correct, so I can redownload games, but it was too much for me to lost so much saves... Then, after many tries and help requests, I found that I could restore my saves doing this:

- new micro sd on the new 3ds
- redownload of one of my games (ex: Gunman Clive)
- take the micro sd to the pc
- go to the proper folder (I worked out with many tries... folder 0040000, then 000c6300, then "data")
- erase the new file and write the old one on it

A big HURRA!!!!!!!!!! when it WORKED!!!

I found this: http://3ds.essh.co/
It helped a lot to recognize the right folders:
Also this helped: http://www.3dbrew.org/wiki/Title_list/eShop_Titles

Now I'm looking to redownload every game I own and restore old files... but... I have problems with some games. I' can't find the names of the right folders... can you help me? I'll post my list down here.

Moreover, is there a simpler way to do what I'm trying to do?

thank you all very much!!!!!

I haven't got any of your other games, so I don't know what their ID is.

Now I'm looking to redownload every game I own and restore old files... but... I have problems with some games. I' can't find the names of the right folders... can you help me? I'll post my list down here.

thank you all very much!!!!!
A simpler way? I'm afraid not. There are a couple of ways to get your missing title IDs though.

After downloading the game again, launch it. This initialises the save data which creates a new save at 0040000\<TitleID>\data\
You shouldn't have to progress much further than the title screen with most games.

The reason I initialise the save is because it creates the folder with the game's TitleID for you.

You can do this with a handful of titles at a time. Initialise save, close game, write down game name, repeat.

Shut the 3DS down and stick the SD card into your computer. Navigate to \Nintendo 3DS\<ID1>\<ID2>\title\0040000\ and sort the folders by "date modified" from oldest to newest.

Use the list of game names you wrote down earlier to find which game belongs to each TitleID.

Couldn't you download all the games, start each one creating a save, and then copy and overwrite those folders, nailing all of them at once?

Yes, that's what I'd do.

But since he specifically mentioned that he was looking to match the games to their relevant TitleID I provided him with instructions to do just that.

Perhaps he wants to keep a backup of the data on his PC using a structure like \Gunman Clive\title\0040000\000c6300\data\ for example.

I do this with games I'm not playing regularly anymore to safeguard my progress.

Oh I see, that's actually a really good idea.

As far as i know, nope, but someone can correct me.
Actually i sorta did this on my games, the only difference is i cut the entire game's folder content to my pc, without deleting the game itself. That way, the icons are still on the home menu, just not showing banner and not booting.
You can backup your NAND first if you're paranoid.
Edit: Seriously, you should do some backup, just in case it messes up something.

Too late, already did it! and... it worked like a charm! My save data is back! Thanks :D

PD: To Mods, sorry for bumping, just wanted to make sure i'd not break anything on my system.
