    Is it possible for me to record my Wii on my television?

    I have a HP Mini 311 laptop, and it has a HDMI input. My television is also a 1080p Panasonic, with the HD cables for the Wii, and it has HDMI inputs of course. I was wondering if it was possible for me to somehow record my Wii with my laptop through the television?

    I am trying to do this without buying certain equipment, or anything else like that. If I have too, it will be okay, but I want to check if I can do it for basically nothing right now.

    Thanks.

    well you would need some kind of adapter, the wii doesn't do hdmi, it has component cables. Best bet is a usb capture card.

    Actually;

    I just bought a cheap one, that my friend referred to me.

    The name of it is EasyCap, scored one online for exactly 8 dollars.

    I hope it is okay.

    Well;

    It is cheap, and is the quality half-decent at least?

    I just want to do a couple tutorials, and the text needs to be readable [IMG].

    it's good enough, and as long as the text isn't super tiny it'll be fine.

    I was considering doing that;

    But I wanted a full screen recording.

    Thanks for the suggestion though.

    you can use video editor like sony vegas movie studio to crop it to 16:9. the real issue is image clarity, its been my experience that I get black bars running through the image.

    I'm sure he wants his video to be stable and clear, unlike the demonstrated tripod method you linked to.

    I want my video to be completely focused on the screen, and no trouble to read at all. The cables that I ordered will run 480i, standard definition, but the Wii can only run 480p anyway. Though I am running 480p, because I got a HDTV, and a HD hookup.

    It will be satisfactory for a few tutorials to do with Homebrew, etc.

    Thanks all for your contributions.

    hello m3rox remember me?(your a great seller, LOL), um misunderstanding i didn't link to the vid, was just responding to the user who gave that suggestion, saying that while possible to do it 16:9 you run the risk of having nasty black bars, and I suppose other things.

    The bars running through the screen; make it very difficult for user's to see what you are explaining. You all know that if you do something completely wrong in hacking your Wii, you can easily brick your console.

    This is why I want to make it as easy as possible for my viewers to follow my guidelines, and learn from them easier.

    Actually;

    I may of thought of a way to record my television, without a capture card.
    What if I just left my Wii hooked up to my television; and then I took my HDMI cable,
    and hooked it into my laptop, and into the output of my television.

    I could then play my Wii on the input channel, and with the correct software, and a HDMI
    cable; I should be able to record with it from there. It would also give me a more impressive
    resolution, because HDMI supplies 1080p resolution, and though the Wii will only run 480p, It is
    still possible for it to look much better.

    Can anyone verify my theory?
