and is Ghost in the Shell a movie or a series? I know 2nd gig is a series but I'm confused about the first one.

Ghost in the Shell and Full Metal Alchemist are 2 very epic animes. (The former having a very complex story line)

Seconded. Thirded. Whatevered.

Ever tried Trigun?
Can't go wrong with it, it's pretty good in terms of character development and twists.

Downloading right now at reccommendation of AceGunman. Loving it so far though as far as Spike(from cowboy bebop) vs Vash (from trigun) goes, Spike is so much more cooler but Vash could kick his arse anyday...

Man, you need some real quality in your anime diet.

Gankutsuou
Monster
Mushishi
Legend of the Galactic Heroues
Gundam Zeta
Turn A Gundam

Monster is a great psychological thriller of an anime and I would really reccommend you watch it. Recently watched the series and I loved the ending. It was so epic and was everything I expected from the buildup.

Evangelion and The Big O also rock.

I heard the last episode of Evangelion is a mindfuck

Also try Outlaw Star or any of the Gundam series. There's a lot but I've only watched Wing, which is considered online to be the worst of them all.

If you want a nice random anime try Futakoi Alternative. Its awesome as hell.

I don't watch much anime anymore my last one I finished was Death Note and I would highly recommend it and despite what people say about it being on the emo side and other junk. I really loved the story line. It was genius, original, and it keeped with the storyline and didn't go off topic. Its a short anime too.

Mushishi for it's uniqueness, tranquility, atmosphere and music.

Death Note for it's genius storyline, excitement and music.

BECK for it's atmosphere, and of course Samurai Champloo for it's music and general fun.

Can't recommend you much else, didn't really like other animes I've seen. Still looking myself for unique series.

I see you watching Naruto and Bleach...

Have you given One Piece a go? I love it, but I rather read the manga's rather than watch the Animé...

Others to recommend:

Films: Akira, Ninja Scroll, Fist of the North Star, Wicked City, Street Fighter II (not alpha, or V series)...Hayao Miyazaki/Studio Ghibli animés are also beautifully made, such as Spirited Away, Grave of the fireflies, Princess Mononoke, and Howls Moving Castle.

Short Series: Oedo 808, Devilman, Samurai X (Roruni Kenshin)

If you want a source for reading some great manga's go to: www.onemanga.com

Since you are into Naruto and Bleach.. try One Piece.. same style, but much better then those IMO

and yes, if you like "deep storyline" stuff, Serial Experiments Lain would be highly recommended..
