Raspberry Pi400 HDMI port not working : defective or by design ?

Folks,

I've rjust eceived my pi 400 and have noticed something , are the 2 HDMI ports on the pi 400 identical or is one takes precedence over the second ?

Let me explain , using the supplied hdmi cable plugged into my TV , I only have display via the port furthest from the usb c socket (tested on raspbian and pimiga,) whereas on the hdmi port closer to the power supply, either I have a black screen, or I have the screen full of predominantly purple color.

I can't figure out if this is normal , I can't know if (the 2nd socket only really turns on if the first one is on or if the hdmi port is defective.

If I remember correctly some TVs are picky and demand a particular HDMI port. You will get a faster and better informed answer if you ask at https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/

This is in regard to the Pi 4:

Connect your screen to the first of Raspberry Pi 4’s HDMI ports, labelled HDMI0.

Note: Make sure you have used HDMI0 (nearest the power in port) rather than HDMI1.

The Pi 400's HDMI0 is the one furthest from the Type C port, presumably the same rule applies.

Thank you for your answers , much appreciated , indeed nothing is defective , Pi plugged into a portable screen works directly from any of the ports but with my TV only from one

This post from 2019 suggests that hdmi0 is probably worth using...

FOr 4kp60, you must use HDMI0, but there does appear to be an issue with HDMI1 on other modes, that we are investigating.
