Sea of Thieves launched nearly a month ago, and despite becoming one of Microsoft's fastest selling games, there were many complaints that stemmed from the perceived lack of content that the game had. Critics and fans alike found that the game didn't have much to do, and the playerbase began to slowly dwindle. Following that, it appears that Rare is eventually planning on adding more content to Sea of Thieves in the coming months. The company gave a light outline of their plans, and mentioned that this April, they'll be focusing on bigfixes and feedback from players. Then, in May, Sea of Thieves will be getting its first content update in the form of "The Hungering Deep", which will add a new AI enemy to the world. More rewards and new gameplay mechanics are also scheduled to be added, as well as recurring weekly events, which are meant to keep players coming back to experience "new ways to play the game".

Also described were two new other content updates, which consists of "Cursed Sails", which will introduce a new ship, and "Forsaken Shores", which will add new exploreable areas to the map. Rare maintains that they do not wish to split their playerbase, so any and all future gameplay content updates will be free.

Rare is like a Digimon, but one who had a De-Digivolution.

So it's essentially a full-priced alpha? I'll check it out in 3-5 years when it might be a complete game.

Just makes it sound like No Mans Sky again.

Nah, No Mans Sky still had some (if however poorly) constructed attempt of giving players something to work towards, with progression coming in the form of better tools, better ships, ability to move around more quickly, and it was only once you got yourself kitted that you realized that the enemy AI was no challenge, all planets looked basically the same, and there was nothing special waiting for you at the end. But it still had gameplay, even if most of it was boring and repetitive.

Sea of Thieves is basically like dropping a bunch of 18-25 year olds in an empty parking lot, only letting 6 or fewer interact with eachother, and occasionally adding a deaf mute to any group that has too few people. While having them just wander aimlessly around that parking lot for hours looking for a t-shirt that has been tucked under one of the cement blocks, with the ability for any other group to just take the t-shirt from them. The group that gets the t-shirt gets to wear it, but only while playing on the parking lot. I mean, yeah, they can run around being dicks to eachother for the sake of wearing a different t-shirt for hours on end... But there's no illusion to keep you going other than just your own ability to gather some friends together to be dicks to others.

Wouldn't be the first game to turn out great through continuous content updates. SFV comes to mind and there's more.

Bad thing the damage is already done.

Good thing it will be at bargain bin price by then.

Most people who complain about Sea of Thieves haven't played. I clocked a good 30 hours and had a blast! I played alone and with friends. Love it.
