I'm having doubts here, anybody who restarted the game can confirm whether the prontera culverts map (1st and 4th floor) is smooth or grainy?
dunno if I were just seeing things, but I have a memory of seeing it smooth
I loaded up NO$GBA with MyZoom and did a little test.

Here is the untouched (unmodified, untrimmed, 100% clean ROM) vs the dev patch on Culvert B1F:

As far as I can tell there is no difference between the maps in the two ROMS.
We have not touched the map images at all, and as far as I know the maps aren't in the same files as the ones we've been working on.
If you do see an actual difference btween the two maps, I would have to say it's your flashcard causing the variance, not the patch.

I'm relieved now, I could've sworn it always looked smooth to me till the point where I noticed how it's supposed to look after the GTB cutscene...damn what distraction can do sometimes

While grabbing the screenshots, I noticed that B2F has the same "grainy" look too, its in the water. My guess is, it's showing texture. I noticed if you hold the DS screen at different angles, you can see more/less detail.

QUOTE(twiztidsinz @ Mar 1 2009, 08:14 PM) The "dev patch" basically has a bunch of partially untested, major changes.

Typically, the patches up till now have just had the text files translated. Any issues caused by this would be simplistic to fix (just re-edit the text) so there was no real concern with putting them out as soon as we felt there was enough to warrant a patch.

Artlan has been busy over the past two weeks hacking away at some of the inner workings of the game, digging around in the ARM9 and Overlay and fonts and other goodies.
Originally, there was a bunch of crashes (Learning Process FTW!!!) that were slowly worked down to a handful of crashes... and then to just random crashes (I believe it's the same random crashes that people have been experiencing from the start of the translation project, where the game would crash seemingly at random and was extremely difficult to reproduce).

A few days before the dev patch was uploaded, all the crashes relating to the files were fixed.
I held off on uploading the new version for a few days for two reasons:
1). The patch was going to be a big one (~32MB) because I couldn't use Andy (malodorus)'s tool to pack all the files and I was hoping that Andy could squeeze in some time in to get it working so that a proper and smaller file could be made.
2). I wanted to further test the changes to make sure there wasn't anything overlooked in our initial testing.

For those unsure of which to get:
If you care about having the most "complete", newest and updated translation, get the dev patch.
If you care more about having fewer crashes and don't care for the story, grab the regular patch.
I haven't heard of anyone having issues with the dev patch, so I'd suggest you go for that. I tested it pretty extensively just to be sure it was OK before releasing it and I'm pretty happy with the result of Artlan's work.

You can grab the patch from here: http://ragnarokds.co.cc/patch.php

i thought they stopped translating it already
There are 5 people currently 'on' the project:
Myself: Honestly, getting sick of this project... but working on things related to the project when I have time.
Artlan: Furiously hacking away at the game's inner-workings to fix various things ingmae.
AndyJayne: Busy with school, working on 3 different tools for the project time permitting.
War: Working on text revisions/corrections/changes.
DarthNemesis: Sort of a mentor for the project, when we run into problems, helps sort them out.

The project isn't stopped or stalled or over... we just haven't had much progress that we can show.
I believe the only thing that is done but not included in the Dev patch is a small graphics translation I worked on for the into screen which I have not even seen actually displayed in the game myself, so it's possible that it will need yet another tweak to make it look OK.

Without a translator who can actually spend time translating, we won't have a whole lot of actual progress.
I did get an email today (last night actually) from someone whom I believe is offering to translate, so maybe more progress will be made soon.

Hey guys! Sorry about the long hiatus. I might be able to free up some time to translate in the coming week or so, but I'm not absolutely certain yet. If I'm able to, hopefully I can work through it as quickly as I did the first batch.

*waves to everyone left* I'm not dead! Sorry for the loooong hiatus from me as well, kinda burned myself out on internal rom things, then got a lot of real-world things going on. I should be able to work more on the game next week, so I plan to finish up a lot of loose ends I left in the last dev patch

yes... if u know hacking a rom you could make part on the project but if u don't just like me you could try xsubmitting bugs or crashes that happens in the game or even mispells that'd wouldn't help a lot but at least u help
