Question:

I'd like to understand what YSmenu really is for, especially regarding playing roms with AP on them. Does it upgrade the R4 to a firmware that is able to play those? Because the R4 firmware simply isn't being updated and thus is not able to play some of the most recent games?

Thanks in advance.

Ysmenu is a different operating system like changing from windows to linux on your PC.
Ysmenu lets you use parts of the unofficial DSTT software which is better updated than the old r4ds software.
But further updates of the dstt firmware may be at an end now, so you will eventually end up with games not running there too.
