So what do I do with the files? Do I put _ds_menu.dat and _ds_mshl.nds in the root directory and the rest in a folder called "shell"? [/noob]
Put ALL of the files and folder in the root directory. And you're set! "That was easy!"

Yeah, just copying the whole thing is the easiest but the only thing that really needs to be copied is the _ds_menu.dat. I upgraded the moonshell it uses for multimedia to 1.6 Final Beta 3 which uses the _ds_mshl.nds filename and the shell folder so I didn't wanna touch those at all. Just copied over the _ds_menu.dat (and of course my skin files in _system_) and all works.

Unfortunately for skinners...

Even when changing the wallpapers (which that's all they allow you to do), you still have a big pulsing square on whatever you are selecting.

Also, they don't allow you to remove or change position of the "R4 English version" on the top screen or the text on the bottom screen.

Give us true skinning functionality please!

Haha, yeah I saw that as well. At least now I can make sure everything is positioned correctly through testing. Hopefully, they'll add in more skinning options like text color, or hell font itself. Show/Hide "R4 English Version," editing the color of the highlight square or having the option to remove it completely. That'd be pretty awesome, but this satisfies me for now unless they're gonna give the GUI a complete rehaul and make it look like SCDS's. Other than that, they should probably focus on homebrew/download play. Ah yeah, is it just me, or does this not work:

scale-lightness adjustment is available to the DS Lite console by touching the sun icon on the top left corner of game interface. (Not available to DS console, the sun icon will turn to be gray if it is DS console.)

Touching the icon actually touches the screen to open whatever file/folder you have selected. Not that it matters to me, I keep my brightness the same always. Just wondering if I was the only one who saw that.

Yessir! I thought that this was going to take weeks also, but days? R4 is really on they shit. As far as a new company out the gate, they are doing VERY well in my eyes so far. 4 updates before i get my card, and another one 2 days after I get it. Yeah, I've heard about the "legendary" M3, but if they don't step up with they updates they may be the Sony in the first full quarter of the next gen console wars, ya dig? Slacking!

Let's get more official, tested skins uploaded to H8TR site now people!

bust-a-move ds ---- WORKS OK
clubhouse games ( usa) --------- WHITE SCREEN - DOES NOT WORK WITH DOWNLOAD PLAY
elite best agents ----- WORKS OK



These tested with a phat DS as the host ( with the R4) and a DS lite as the downloading device. Neither are flashed.

Did you properly install the firmware? In the menu when R4 boots up, it should now say 1.05 in the bottomleft corner and the 'select' feature to hide and display certain filetypes will work.

well well, Mine shows v1.05 but the 3 icons is the pacman one. AND the light adjustment wrks perfectly here. But also, I can't get my new logo to show up even after overwriting the old one -.-"

That's strange :/
Even though it should not be neccessery, try getting the non mirrored one. Maybe it got slightly corrupted along the way, who knows.

Make sure your bmp files are either 8bit or 24bit when you save them or it will not work.

They do not appear for me when i select games ( all that is listed are the game roms). Under multimedia they are shown.

P.S its very easy to resize a photo and use it as the logo screen. I guess thats why they keep the " R4 english version" writing displayed at the bottom right hand side.

LOL mine completely shows everything, when i 'highlight' the game I want and press select, it shows the .sav and etc.

I've not got my R4 yet, but its on its way. Hopefully I'll get it next week. I got the latest firmware from the main website, I used a download accelerator which sped the download speed up. Though I had to pause and restart it a few times. I don't know why they don't post any mirrors or even use rapidshare or something similar. Its a good job others are willing to post it for us so we can get it at a decent speed. I thought the supercard website was slow for downloading the firmware files

BTW, if you want to 'integrate' MoonShell 1.6 in the menu, just download it, use it's installer and rename the binary to _DS_MSHL.NDS and make the MSHL folder hidden. I don't own R4 though ...
