Hacking R4 SDHC Issues

Hey! I'm using an R4 SDHC Dual-Core from 2016 with Real Time Save play NDS roms, but for some reason, none of my games save. (This issue is affecting my Pokémon Heartgold, Soulsilver, and Pearl Roms) Every time I try to play a game, the R4 says that it is making a save file. Then, I can play a game and save in-game. However, if I leave the game and then re-enter it, the R4 needs to make a save file again and I need to start the game all over...
Any advice?

Thats weird, does it create save files on microsd? RTS saves also don't work?
If you don't care about rts function you can use ysmenu from this thread which should work better:

Currently, it's not actually making save files, which I think might be the cause of these problems... Same with RTS. I'll try using wood.

Its not wood, its ysmenu...and it seems like this guy deleted it from google drive so look in this thread https://gbatemp.net/threads/retrogamefan-updates-releases.267243/page-164

So I've got one last dumb question: will I have to boot ysmenu.nds every time I want to play DS games? ysmenu works like a charm, but it could be a pain having to boot it up every time...

Found that file on my hdd, just unpack that archive to your microsd and you'll always have ysmenu.
