I'm hesitating between those two cards. What are the pro and cons? R4 now has DLDI support, right?

What about the GUIs?

Thanks for your help

R4 with ez flash 3-1 expansion pack.

R4 has automatic DLDI patching in the firmware.
It is easy to use and tis cheap.
EZ Flash 3-1 has GBA support and is a rumble pack.
Place Rudolph's Tools on the R4 to boot the Expansion.

Oh, and the expansion gives extra ram for some homebrew and the opera browser.

Why do you feel the R4 is better than the EZFlashV ? Let's put the expension pack aside (it can be used with both devices). Telle me why you prefer the R4.
I heard the R4 has a horrible GUI, while the EZV has a very good one.

Thanks!

i have both and much prefer the r4 mostly because of the simplified gui, but also cause of the fact it's been perfect from the start the ez-V had to get teh correct save type and shit

The EZFlashV and R4 GUIs are almost the same.

R4 has a GREAT amount of Skins/Themes to customize it just the way you want.

It has 100% Compatibility not including the crap games that no one will ever play, and full Download-Play support.

I don't have an R4, so I'll go with what I hear. I have an EzV though, and I don't complain.

R4:
-Pros
Most people have em so its easier to find support.
Support is better, they get patches.
They have cheats
Comes with a bit more: USB MicroSD Reader, key chain case
On the fly DLDI patching

-Cons
It's more expensive (compared prices on DX) R4 is $32 (R4 w/ 3-in-1 ~ $52) & EzV is $28 (EzV w/ 3-in-1 = $42)
Requires more support in some cases: Some games need an arm7 fix to work (didn't we want a slot 1 to get away from patching?) but these are usually fixed after the R4 Team releases a new patch.
GUI (opinion based, you have a choice between 3 options on start, not sure what the options were)
Download play is better I beleive

EzV
-Pros
Requires no new firmware patches to get games working (I haven't ran into a new game that doesn't work)
Optional patching to make games perform better (never used it ever though)
Cheaper (compared prices on DX) R4 is $32 (R4 w/ 3-in-1 ~ $52) & EzV is $28 (EzV w/ 3-in-1 = $42)
GUI (1.41 GUI was good, I'm not liking te 1.6+ GUI though)
Integrated Moonshell 1.71 (1.6+ kernel only, 1.41 has Moonshell 1.5 integrated) enabling you to play your videos, mp3s, and read text right away without booting or selecting moonshell (was one reason I got the EzV)

-Cons
Support (was almost gone for like 6 months, but seems like they're back, and even when they were gone there was no problems booting and playing any game, so we almost didn't even need support to play new games.)
Takes longer to boot games (saves are saved on a chip which are written to the MicroSD when you change games, which gives the EzV better compatibility; I figured a couple seconds is better than worrying about decompiling a rom, patching, and recompiling the rom)
No cheats
PCB is exposed (hidden under sticker, if you think about it, it stays in your DS most of the time anyways)
GUI (1.41 GUI was good, I'm not liking te 1.6+ GUI though)
Download play doesn't work for a few games
Homebrew got broken for some apps (most of the major ones weren't affected)
Homebrew requires DLDI patching manually (a front is available to do this easily though)
Kernel 1.41 requires savelists (1.6+ don't require save lists, and autodetects save type)

Other note:
I think the only games on the EzV that aren't supported are those games with those whacky peripherals that are needed to even play those games. I think they boot, but ask you to stick in the peripheral it needs.

I think the big things the R4 has over the EzV is really just download play and cheats. The big thing that I can think of that the EzV has over the R4 is virtually all new releases will work right away, usually someone comes up with a fix for those games that don't work on the R4 (there isn't many, but it happens); can't back this up, but maybe if you look at the patches that are released on the R4, I think a lot of em are game fixes; not saying that they didn't release patches that enhanced the cart itself(if you look at the changelogs from 1.08 - 1.12, they all contain game fixes I think). That's all I can think of for now.

Don't even download 1.12, it's bad; all it does is fix ARM7 games and is buggy.

Go for R4. And maybe even Cyclo. Waiting for them to be available again, me just bored of R4, and need a backup cart anyways (which will be my R4 after I get Cyclo).

EDIT:

1. Download play is better I beleive

2. opinion based, you have a choice between 3 options on start, not sure what the options were

3. On the fly DLDI patching

4. Requires more support in some cases: Some games need an arm7 fix to work (didn't we want a slot 1 to get away from patching?) but these are usually fixed after the R4 Team releases a new patch.

1. Fixed in 1.11
2. Games, Moonshell and boot slot 2
3. Auto DLDI patching for homebrew if thats what you meant
4. ARM7 games fixed in 1.12, but patching those games are easy, but it's glitchy.

I'd say go for the R4. It has pretty much 100% game compatibility and don't require you to select save type, memory card speed etc. Its by far one of the easiest to use and is relatively cheap.

Thanks a lot, especially Saylient_Dreams for your interesting comments!

I still have not decided. Another point of interest is that in the EZV, the microsd slot is'nt exposed when the card is in the DS, I like that.

Don't hesitate to put other information here

The new design of the R4DS kinda blends the MicroSD with the cart.
Makes it look sleeker... I think EZV is only a few bucks cheaper than the R4.

The EZ Flash team banned several of us from their forums for trying to make bug reports to improve the kernels. At the unofficial forums, several of our top contributors and troubleshooters (main troubleshooter/newbie guider mbmax, savelist maintainer xsinthis, etc.) are leaving as a result. I would highly recommend the R4 over the EZ Flash V.

Worms 2 is awesome.

The only feature the R4 doesn't have is wii connectivity.

The last R4 update (1.12) is said to have fixed any remaining arm7 problems that weren't fixed with 1.11. There were only 2 titles that still had the problem in 1.11 afaik -- WOW2 and a Japanese game. So that should no longer be a deciding factor.

windirt (the official EZ spokesman) said that the EZV will have an update in 1-2 days that will more or less make it equal in functionality with the R4. But EZ users have been burned in the past with promises of updates in a short period that ended up taking weeks or months so I'm not holding my breath.

If you want a sure thing then R4 is the way to go. If you can deal with current functionality and want a slightly cheaper product with a chance of updates in the future then the EZV will suit your needs...

alright everyone knows nothing
1.ezflash has cheats and great ones to it posseses not only action replay but also one very similair to the r4s.
2. ez flash has download and wifi much better than r4 and on my ez flash i never have to to do any of that arm7 stuff unlike r4 where thats what happens all the time
3. Ezflash does'nt lock up on me at keeps my ds pefect
4. best of all online quality is great and i can reduce the size of my games by about 10-20% less size and its so much cheaper

r4s are just the most known one not the best

hope that helped

Way to drudge up an old thread!

Look at the date of the last reply.

At the time it was written the scene was much different so the information was accurate. What a difference a year makes...
