    Hey there:

My friend just bought a nintendo ds lite, and he asked me to help him buy a flash card. In my country, we only have two choices for flash cards: R4 and DSTT. Which one is better? What are the pros / cons of them, and what are the main problems of those cards?

    Thanks in advance

It's official: It's a tradition for most users that their first question contains the words "best flash cart"...

DSTT is the way to go. A lot of people will explain to you why. So I'll just give you one reason.

It is just getting updates more often compared to the R4, which has not had an update for almost 3 months.

As to the bolded phrase, the US can only buy 2 flash carts? [IMG]

    DSTT:
    Pros:
    -A lot of updates
    -Runs games perfectly
    -Cheaper
-Fast( if not, fastest?) game loading times
    -Supports MicroSDHC

    Cons:
    -Uhhhhhhhhh, semi hard to skin?
-MicroSD's used to stick out but i think the new batch fixed this? (correct me if i'm wrong)
-Doesn't come with moonshell (big boo hoo *sarcasm*), though you can download one from the site and it works perfectly. (Thanks for the info Devil May Cry)
    -Have to download the firmware

    R4
    Pros:
    -Easy to use
    -Very easy to skin
-Comes with a CD with firmware

    Cons:
    -Doesn't support MicroSDHC
    -Slow Updates
-Reports of some games not working(Ds Download Play and etc.)
-Few bucks more than a DSTT

And yeah, i have the same question as R2DJ, Why do you only have a choice of 2 cards?

Well I'm live in south america, and the local store has those 2 cards. They're pretty expensive though (about 60 bucks each one). What are the main problems of those 2 cards?

Why use order them online? You can get them fairly cheap at DealExtreme.

I think you should just buy them online. dealwoot.com, leetmod.com, and dealextreme.com are all relatively cheap and have dstt's and r4's. DSTT's right now have free shipping for some odd reason. About 30 bucks each, dealextreme is 20 bucks but takes about 2 weeks to get to where you are.

    Main problem of DSTT is . . . . . I don't think there is one actually.

Main problem of R4 is how they don't get updated so if there is a problem that involves the latest firmware, it'll take a while to get it fixed.

The main con of the R4, is that it is an R4 so get the DSTT.

Just as small edit; yes, there was only a few batches that had the microSD problem. Also, not having moonshell off the bat may be bad but 1 quick download off their site fixes that. Just saying... [IMG]

how long does it take to get one flash card from dealextreme? ah I forgot to tell you that my friend doesn't even know how to copy stuff in a micro sd card, so the flash card should be really user friendly. I also forgot that here they let you try the flash cards like 3 to 5 minutes, that way I am not getting a defective one.

    Thanks for the replies

Dealextreme takes about 1-2 weeks, although you can pay for better shipping though. And they sell ALL real cards, or so I've heard. There are sites like realhotstuff.com or dealwoot.com that is located in US so you can just ship the card back and get a replacement if it's defective.

Thanks for all the replies [IMG] So DSTT is the way to go. Are there any problems with that card? I read something a while ago about freezing & not recognizing the micro sd card (something that involved formatting I remember)

I suggest getting the DSTT as well due to it being updated more often and it has better compatibility.

The DSTT can be pretty fast when it comes to making game compatibility updates, weren't they the first to have a working 8MB sav file for DBBDX?

They were one of the first. I believe Cyclo was first, was it not?

Both the reviews are quite outdated. Especially the R4 one.

Also, make sure to get the DSTT, OP. It actually gets firmwares, has all the games working (Unlike the R4, which has around 6 games that do not work right now), really cheap, only 20 bucks off of DealExtreme (R4 is 40 bucks), and it can support micro sd cards that support over 2 gigs. The R4 can only support up to 2 gigs.

The R4 DS review really needs a re-evaluation, but I don't think any staff members would want to do it for the R4.

Why don't one of you re-evaluate the R4 and submit it in?

Homebrew compatibility is nearly perfect. all listed work. I have not tried Stella DS or PicroDrive DS though.
    download play support works now.

What the pros and cons should be
