Hacking R4/M3Simply -- No Patching ROMs Question...

As I understand it, one does not have to patch DS ROMs to play them on the R4 or M3 Simply as I currently have to do with my M3 Lite... but can you still patch them before putting them onto your card for the R4 or M3 Simply?
The point of my question is this: I like patching the DS ROMs because "Trim Rom" is just plain great. If I didn't have it as an option, the games I currently have on my microSD card simply would not fit (no pun intended).

On the R4, some trimming software is provided in the MiniCD you get in the R4's box.

I'm assuming that the M3 simply will also let you patch/trim roms.

Looking at R4 review, all save files created within the DS are going to be 512kb. Around 13mb w/ 25 roms.
