Just patch them normally with DLDI and fire them up on your card.

However, if they still don't work, you probably need to patch them with the NDSL WiFi Patcher (http://www.mediafire.com/?fmynxiqd9nn)

The DLDI patcher didn't work probably because you didn't download a DLDI file. In any case, rather than using DLDI Patcher, I recommend using DLDIrc. Its more convenient.

And about the WiFi patcher, it is said to fix the WiFi connection issues with certain DSs. If your homebrew isn't able to connect to WiFi, use it.

A thanks would be nice too.

Ok, to use DLDIrc, right-click on your homebrew and select your DLDI file for your flashcart (R4 in this case). If the DLDI file does not appear, reinstall the software and ensure that you install the R4 DLDI file in the process (click the DLDI file from a list within the install)

After that, run the "Setup" file (the one that came with the wifivoicechat zip file) and select the wifivoicechat file. Click "Auto" or similar and let it run. After the setup completes what it needs to do, get the wifivoicechat file in your your R4 and report back

The R4 Kernel v1.10 and v1.11 has auto DLDI patching.

    No need to DLDI homebrew.

WiFi Voicechat client is a homebrew messaging/chatting application. Yes, it works with the R4. I just used it as an example.

Manually DLDI patching won't do anything if the cart already does it automatically.

I recall speaking with chishm about some of this stuff (I was asking him about the possibilities of being able to successfully complete some potentially wicked hacks I wanted to attempt). It's very appealing.

It sure is nice that the DS is both a relatively powerful system and yet it's still very accessible for independent developers. It's a shame systems like the Wii are so hard to get into.
