I'm not on 5.0.0, I'm just saying that maybe they should at least release the exploits when they're good and ready, and still tell people not to update anyway, and once done, release it and avoid any teasing. Why can't they do that instead?
They release video, not to tease but for proof obviously or else people bitch about where is the proof that he has made actual progress and even at that people still find something to bitch about, look at team executer for example they've posted a video saying that they have a hardmod in developement and still people bitch about them not showing the actual hardware and wires coming out of the switch and what not, and that their firmware proof is nonsence or that they have nothing and are only lying, lol.

Man am I glad I blocked with the DNS and adding two update servers to my blacklist; can't force an update now, can you, Nintendo? :creep:
Just curiouse, why do you need to do all those thing when you can just erase internet settings on switch and therefore not worry about it, am i missing something? That way your triple dns servers protection don't malfunction and everything backfires on you, lol.

Lol indeed.

The answer for people on 3.0.0 for example is - because the entry point for HBL is the web browser - which has to be online - to browse the web (or even just a self hosted DNS server). Rocket science.

Also - I use dnsmasq on the router level, and adaway blacklists (host file) for my smartphone hotspot. Both never malfunction ("forget what they are supposed to block."). Its a thing in the Linux world, Windows users won't understand it.. ;)

next they will try to make it so the updates won't run on emunand.
I don't see how they're going to do that without somehow damaging access for normal users. EmuNAND is, effectively, the same as SysNAND in everyway excluding where it's loaded from. If they can't stop the exploit, they can't stop emuNAND.

I'm gonna keep updating until the scene becomes more interesting. (Updateable CFW, N64 emulation maybe, etc.)
That's basically where it's at now. They were able to patch out eFuses, which means updatable emuNAND is probably not far off.
A switch is currently being switched to me. Does it matter if it has firmware 4.0 instead of 4.1? Is there any significant loss for me, since I now can't update to 4.1 and have to stay at 4.0? Am I still able to use any hack for it?
Not really, you can always update with a game if you have to.

They can mess with how eFuses are burned/checked, requiring changes to the CFW code each update so people aren't able to update right away, but it'll only delay updates, not prevent them.

Sounds like a 3DS situation. I wonder how far they'd attempt to push it just to keep CFW off the system.

Because someone could just reconnect to the internet and update without my knowing about it. I've blocked the servers already so even if someone does, they can't update without removing the blacklisted update servers from the router.

I personally think a 2. Switch is a waste of money.

Think about how many games you could buy with that money
yea, but with how intense this 5.0 update is and how much i enjoy modding, its personally worth it. plus ive got my few games for now that i can continue playing for a very long time.

Probably will not happen.
Sony as the market leader did not offer such service. Microsoft just wants market share.
Nintendo just wants to gut you for an extra adapter and cardboard.

Playstation Now is this kind of service. And Microsoft similarly now has Game Pass. Nintendo is the only of the 3 not offering such a service yet, and it would be so much more reasonable for Nintendo to do it especially for their new take on the Virtual Console because they have such a huge backcatalog of very small in file size games compared to all the games Sony and Microsoft have to offer (at least up through the N64 are all the games considerably smaller).

Seriously, if they're taking this much time before launching any kind of real virtual console, I have to imagine some major changes are in the works, and a Netflix-like service would just make sense.

how are they datamining the 5.0.0 update if exploits don't work on that.

I think for now it's worth staying on 4.1 or lower and keep playing the games we got.
well il wait till when emunand first comes out if people get banned il update because then its not worth it unless you have two switches.

if some one else in your house owns a switch you can't do that though.

Why Update now just tell me what game you need to be on 5.0 now that you can play it
i'm not but when emunand comes out and people get banned and no one knows how to stop bans from happing i will not be hacking my switch. Hopefully there will be a way to prevent ninty from knowing your switch is modded unless you cheat online. With the 3ds is seems the issue was with homebrew cias my 3ds has not been banned and i've been using 3dxs instead of cias. i don't see how they can tell if you were to inject homebrew into an app on the switch.

theres no real downside to modding if you can have lasted updates with emunand but yeah in order to avoid bans we need to know how nintendo tracks stuff on the system.

thing is they should not make exploits private any more since the bug bounty will catch them anyways they should let users know when ever they find and exploit so they know not to update yes it gets patched but it doesn't matte because they don't update.
