Tomorrow is the day that I can do another system transfer but I was wondering how early can I do it? I.e. 12am or so

I think that you can backup your system (before transfer), transfer, then restore it and do it over and over again.
that and the 7 day timer starts when you start the transfer so whenever it was started 1 week later
There's a way you can downgrade right at this moment without another transfer, as long as you have a pre-transfer backup on your hacked 3DS.
Download the DSi game on freeshop, install the save, then go to system settings and back it up on the SD card. Buy the same game on the unhacked 3DS, give it the hacked 3DS's SD card, and import the backup you made.
You will then have he hacked game on the vanilla 3DS.

None of you are answering his question.... OP you just need to wait 7 days, the actual time doesn't matter only the DATE. So if today is the 7th day since you transferred you should be good to go today or tomorrow depending on if it was before/after 12am on whichever day.
Also, you guys are wrong. You HAVE to wait 7 days regardless. These transfers are server side, not just locally and no matter how many times you restore a backup you can't bypass the mandatory wait time imposed by the server. It will simply keep telling you to wait.

Since the target is a new2ds and the source is a old3ds can I just place the microsd card into an adapter and stick it into the old3ds?
Does what ThisIsDaAccount said actually work? Has it been proven to work for everyone or do I still need to wait?

It works but only if the transfer was successful and you didn't format the target console.
It worked for me on the last steps to setting up luma3ds now!
