Hacking Question about old unit

I was recently told that XBOX LIVE is not required for netflix now?
Is this true?

I have an x360 in my garage that was banned in like... 2008 ??? 2009? i forget

its been sitting there ever since.
So I was thinking... will I be able to use it as a netflix box; since xlive isnt required anymore?

Banned ones can't go online.
You need an connection to XBL connection to connect to Netflix, XBLgold isn't required no.

Ah ok, he said XBL wasnt required but what he SHOULD have said was XBLGold wasnt.
thanks for the clearup. turns out the xbox will continue to be a home to whatever bugs found it in my garage lol
