Hacking question about complete sofmod guide

what's the proper way to do this? I've managed to do this , but I'm still not sure , because sometimes I make a few mistakes and then have to backtrack, and fix things ( upside down HBC, for example)

I want to do everything in proper order , once and for all, so I don't need to go and fix stuff.

Am I supposed to update to 4.2 first? then install the HBC?

but according to the guide , I need to run WAD manager to do the update.

so , if I have a console that's below 4.2, is it best to install HBC and then update to 4.2?
or, am I supposed to update to 4.2 , and then follow the guide for modding a 4.2 console?

have you been following xzxero's guide as this explains how to update as well as softmod it and is very easy to follow, just have a read through and see if you can get your answers from there

the instructions tell u to update first using the update.zip then go through and use modify.zip
its very clear plain and simple, if u read it u shouldnt makemistakes

I'm getting an error when I try this part.

Installing cIOS & Patching the System Menu IOS
Run WAD Manager 1.5
Press + on:
cIOS202[38+60]-v4.wad
cIOS222[38+37]-v4.wad
cIOS223[38]-v4.wad
cIOS249-v17.wad
cIOS250-v17.wad
IOS70-64-v6687[TB+ES_diV+NAND].wad
Press 1 to install the cIOS's.
Press home to exit.

I try to install cIOS202 , but its gets to Installing ticket .... then, error! (ret = -2011)

what's that mean?

if the system was below 4.2 originally , I don't need to do this part below, right?

You will need to delete the stubbed IOS's before you can install cIOS's.
