Hey gbatemp, this is my first post here so I hope I don't make you answer the same old question for the 100th time.

I'll give you a bit of context but I don't wanna re-tell the whole story: I've been looking for a lost song used in a specific Super Smash Bros. Brawl video from 2009, and every link where it was uploaded is now dead or it was reuploaded to Youtube with awful audio quality. After a week of searching I landed on a SmashBoards forum thread from 2010 about custom SSBB music, that linked to a .brstm version of the song I was looking for.

I downloaded it and converted to .wav and .flac using 2 different applications, LoopingAudioConverter and BrawlBox, the results were pretty similar or identical. The resulting file definitely sounds a lot better than the Youtube uploads I could find, but it does feel like the audio is clipping a lot, maybe what I found didn't use the original .mp3 I was looking for or maybe it was edited before getting converted to .brstm, maybe the original song had bad mixing overall, or maybe it's just that they used a "Youtube to mp3" version, there's no way I can find out now.

So considering this is the best I can get right now, my question is the following: Is this the best way to convert .brstm files to .wav / other formats? Am I losing quality in the process? Any other pointers to applications / people / communities that could help me out with this?
I'm pretty clueless about audio stuff or how any of those audio formats work, so not sure if I even did the correct thing.

Thank you for your time, any information is appreciated.
