"Microsoft Studios and Remedy Entertainment are happy to announce that they are bringing their hit action game Quantum Break to even more Windows PC gamers on September 14 with the retail release of Quantum Break: Timeless Collector’s Edition and the digital release of Quantum Break for Steam."

Also confirmed to run on 7, so won't be an awful uwp.

I guess Microsoft decided it would be nice to actually get some sales on pc, rather than leaving it to die. Hopefully it's a trend of things to come and other win10 store only games come across.

It's interesting, although not unprecedented; Ryse has already been released on Steam, and despite the games being MS exclusives, neither developer is actually owned by Microsoft. Even the Xbox-first Rise of the Tomb Raider released on Steam simultaneously with the Windows Store release.

I'll be more interested when Forza or Gears of War start making the move away from UWP.

This is not the same.

Ryse was released before Windows 10 & the UWP format and Microsofts push to make both run in the xbox live ecosystem. Ryse is also published by Crytek on Steam, not Microsoft. The exclusive deal ran out and Crytek self published.

Tomb Raider, was published by Square enix on pc (on both win10 store and steam). Again the timed exclusive simply ran out.

Quantum break is the first MS published game that was fully intergrated with the xbox live stuff (cross buy, achievements are shared, saves are shared etc) to make the move. It's not even a case like the other two where the deal simply ran out, the Steam version is still being published by Microsoft.
