Hacking Q: How can Gateway work on Emunand 6.3 (noob question)?

Just wondering (forgive my ignorance): knowing that GW will not work on something higher then 4.5.
How does it work then, that after updating an emunand to 6.3, the Gateway still works?

Doesn't that mean that an emunand isn't strictly a clean environment but that it's patched in someway?

What? It's obviously patched, it's running off your SD. Emunand isn't for games at this point but primarily for eShop access so technically GW mode doesn't have to work inside 6.3 after it has been launched.

Of course its patched. It has to be patched to run from the SD.
