Played the demo today of PPT, the first mode which allows you to choose either Puyo Puyo or Tetris and wasn't a big fan of that, I did find myself loving the mode that mixed Puyo Puyo with Tetris. It's a very simplistic game yet very challenging.

I attempted to get a large row all at once and then screwed myself. :rofl2:

    Tetris is overally addicting.
I played Puyo Puyo Tetris on Wii U, wrecked up 13 hours. [Then my friend sold his Wii U .-.]

I got it for 3ds and it's worth it just for the tetris portion (I still don't understand puyo puyo :P )

I find myself constantly cursing the computer opponent. I bet getting multiplayer going is a blast.

I've been playing Puyo Puyo and its various manifestations since Kirby's Avalanche on SNES. LOVE IT. Can't wait for the Switch release. Haven't played a good Tetris combo game since Tetris/Dr. Mario on SNES. I'm sensing a pattern here...maybe I just really like the SNES. ^_^

Anyway, Puyo games are amazing. I set up a Japanese Switch profile so I could play the demo. My wife even loves it.

Hint: To set up attacks in Puyo Puyo, you have to get active chains of Puyo cleared. (Clear a green set, it drops a red that clears, which drops a yellow that clears, etc and so on.) The attack launches when the combo is done. Attacks for Tetris build up on subsequent line clears, and then they launch when you play a piece that doesn't clear a line. ^_^

I mostly played Puyo Puyo mode only, not a big fan of tetris. It's good that it appeals to fans of both, and that you can choose to play only one or the other if you prefer.
But I do wish it had more game modes. Puyo Puyo 20th Anniversary on the DS had a whole ton of game modes, and one of my favorites was the Endless Fever mode, it's really satisfying to deliver combo after combo. The other modes were fun too and added a lot more variety to the game.
Edit: Maybe the full version has far more variety. Judging by the grayed out items on the main menu, it doesn't have anywhere near as much variety as 20th Anniversary did. Not sure yet whether I'll buy it or not. I like Puyo Puyo, but it's not something I play a lot.

The opponents always defeat me as they drop tetris/puyo bricks in my rows. :-/ What am I doing wrong? This feels like cheating.

After playing the demo on the Switch I played the full version on my 3DS. Sadly some of three-star-ratings in Adventure Mode are much harder to get than others. Like those in chapter 1 and 2 where you need a certain score in a VS match. You really need to stack up a lot in order to get as much points in one shot. Most of the time I end up defeating my opponent way too soon.

    @Saiyan Lusitano
You need to clear as many rows of Tetromino or Puyo at once to give your enemy a disadvantage. So build up for a larger strike before you clear it.

    These guys are amazing:

I'll never be anywhere good (it's not a game I play very often) as them but it's great to see this. The Chinese player though, he blamed it on lag and asked for technicians. xD

That video is the whole reason I actually started playing tetris again. I'm way better at endless mode than I am at versus mode

So in anticipation to this, I just got around trying different tetris games for older consoles and honestly, those versions were really weird and awful. The Sega and Super Nintendo didn't feel like I was playing the real tetris game and even the original on NES seems like it lost its essence for me (the music and gameplay speed).

I didn't try the DS version which I read is one of the best.

Hopefully on the full version of PPT there'll be an option to turn off the ability from throwing bricks at your opponent, I mean, it needs to be an option.

I played a round of Puyo Puyo tetris' Tetris marathon endless that was 1 hour and 49 minutes long (without breaks or just one to get a drink) - 898 cleared lines and I can't remember my points but yeah, addictive...

I love the versus modes but I rarely get to play them.

I suggest you guys try a similar game on the DS, it's called Meteos.

Just watched a gameplay video of that and wow.. I couldn't tell what was happening. It's one of those that the user needs to play it him/herself.
