The thing with digital downloads is that you need a good service. The PSP Go was a pretty mediocre device because PSN as a completely digital service sucks. Game prices are expensive compared to buying it used or just buying it new and getting the game + all the extras. Steam works pretty damn well because of all the community stuff they put in there and their deals.... Selling Valve games also helps.

Although it would definitely blow for people with limited bandwidth although I don't see these games being any more than a couple of GB at most.

As per the power thing, that's cool I guess. Sure power isn't the "solution" to making better games but it sure does help. And it's not like the PSP had no good games, it still had a pretty decent library.

If you can buy games in store and download them quickly using USB or some other medium then it's easier for people with bad bandwidth and doesn't kill off local stores.

it would be pretty cool if the psp2 was this ridiculously powerful mini pc and we could emulate n64, DC, PS2,GC lol would be awesome, but i doubt it. Graphics these days are very much driven by the gpu and the cpu is unimportant, large amounts of ram are also unnecessary especially at lower resolutions so 1GB makes no sense also i imagine the screen will be about 800x480 and will have graphics in between ps2 and ps3 but the small screen will push it towards ps3.

Sony did a great job of making there place in the portable market, consider that every other company that has attempted has failed, psp may never have had the popularity of the ds but it has a big slice of the market now and i know i will buy both consoles although i would definitely favor the 3ds at the moment. Its a shame all sony knows how to do is add more power because in the end all were really looking for is good games.

I don't care what company releases the console and i don't care about its specs or controller, all that matters is who has the games i want to play.....isn't that how everyone feels?

I don't think it will come close to the prossesing power of the 360 it will most likely have a 1ghz dual core at most and a lot weaker gpu the reason for this is simply that battary's fitting in a psp sized handheld would run out withing an hour if they would give it more power.

well to be fair the xbox 360 is 5 years old so I'm sure gpu's have advanced since then, i don't think the psp2 could actually match its power but it could produce similar visuals because of the reduction in resolution and the gpu solution would probably have more advanced efficient shaders to make up for the lack of power much like the 3ds

Like i said...
QUOTE(fgghjjkll @ Oct 31 2010, 06:13 PM) If you can afford the upcoming PSP, surely you can afford the new optical fibre unlimited bandwidth with mirrored speeds internet connection?

EDIT: But i do think they need to start bringing out the full UMD library onto PS Store. Otherwise, a peripheral should be built to support UMD loading. What happened to the rumoured Logitech UMD Drive?

That is whats stopping me from buying a PSPgo.
Or at the very least, a decent connection with one terabyte plan per month....

Lol, I probably should've posted this in this forum instead. = ="

Maybe we should merge the two threads instead of having duplicates? We have like 4 pages of comments in the other one already, so there have been some 'useful' replies worth discussing.

Sadly, Sony is a non factor in the portable wars. Now its all about Apple vs Nintendo. And neither company cares about Sony.

Also the digital distribution only model didn't work with the PSPGo. Why do they think it will work here?

Funny thing is, the same plan works for Apple. Why not Sony?

The problem with the PSP Go is that Sony never really advertised the digital distribution concept. Sure they promoted it with the PSP go, but that wasn't really advertised much either. It was worth more buying a PSP 3000 whcih still has the UMD drive and a far more larger library of games in the form of physical media than the PSP go with only a few select UMD titles on Playstation Store.

Well mind you PSP games go for like $30 a pop on PSN and App Store games are like a $1 each or so. At most a super-pricey game (like Chaos Rings) is a whopping $12 or so. Why buy the PSP version of Chinatown Wars when you can get the iPhone version for half as much? Plus the App Store has a lot of "fluffy" gaming, or just easy gaming that's good at killing time. PSPs try to have more "console-like" games (meaning it tries to emulate a sit-down home console in terms of it's library), which is probably one of my least favorite things about the PSP. Not that it doesn't produce good console-quality games, but I usually enjoy more handheld-tailored ones (something the DS did pretty damn well).

I'm sorry, but sadly that's not how everyone feels. My school is dominated by gamers who only play CoD. The school is split into Sony fans, Microsoft Fans and me. Although I support all the gaming companies, I'm known as the local Nintendo fan. When people hear me talking abou games, they'll just randomly come up to me and say " Wii/ DS sucks. Xbox/Playstation has better graphics."

So I will assume that it's just the smart people who actually want to play their games instead of marvel at the game environments.

the price i think has been a great factor for the console not selling and after pspgo it seems tht sony's goals and concept has changed.... i am sure many complained about the non-cd/dvd etc type drive in the console but i guess they do not wanna adopt tht at all
they could use cartridges but piracy is always a major issue with it... mini dvds would be best IMO if not UMD (well they are almost the same if not the same... please someone clarify)

No they haven't.
The PSP prices are almost identical to their Nintendo Counterpart's.

*Performs quick check on eBay*
Yep, near identical, perhaps at most a £20 difference which doesn't even get into the much higher than Nintendo bracket.

Obviously, since it'll have no UMD thus no retail gain, accept from accessories and PSN cards.
