Alright.. I've been wanting a PSP Slim for a while now, but recently, I found out that you could probably break it in one drop. Is this true..? I don't wanna spend so much money again. So basically, the question is, PSP Slim or PSP Phat?

What're the advantages of PSP Slim over PSP Phat?

All I know so far are:

-thinner
-lighter
-usb charger
-connecting to TV (?)

That's about it.. anything else? I think I may change my mind and get a PSP phat instead because I will take it outside from time to time or take it on vacation with me.

Depends on the price. If you can get a phat for $60 or less (like I did tonight

), get it. Otherwise, slim all the way.

Slim has faster UMD read speed, it significantly reduces loading (although still slower than memory stick)
The speakers are placed on the face, instead of its ass. It makes the sound less strange.

This is one major +1 for slim.. never knew that. Thanks. This makes me want Slim a lot more now.

I can get PSP Slim for 120 brand new in a box. PSP Phat brand new for 100 in a box. It's really rare for me to find a PSP phat used for under $80. I found a Slim with 4GB memory stick for $50 once, but I was too late. Argh..

And for the unanswered questionto anyone.. Is it likely to break really esaily? As in.. just drop it once and its done?

I really doubt it. It would have to be one serious drop for that to happen. It may feel toyish (b/c of the plastic) imo compared to a phat, but the weight makes it worth it.

Oh and why not get a simple case for it? That may end your worries.

Edit: I guess if it lands on the screen then it's not so durable. But maybe it's that I'm too cautious. I don't bring it near concrete etc.

lol 'cause the case defeats the purpose of a slim.. but I guess I should since I'm so paranoid about dropping my PSP.. since I recently broke my DS like that.

But yeah, I guess I should go for Slim. Thanks for the input people.

the psp is NOT durable, quit spreading lies.

you drop your PSP, something's likely to break on it. My brother dropped his (2.5 ft. drop at most) and the screen broke, he had to get a new screen.

I have a $70 gift card my brother won in a dance competition. So basically, after tax it's 190 at where I buy it, with 70 off that's 120 for a BNIB (brand new in box). Pretty good if you ask me.

Slim:
-Sony is not making FW's for PSP's features ONLY for slim, for ex, the new Skype Feature, Skype->Skpye free.
-More memory, to be exact, 64 memory on slim, was 32 on fat
-faster loading times because of new hard drive or somthing, mother board.
-lighter
-screen is more "crisp"
-Daxter pack(which i recommend+what im getting) includes 1 UMD movie/show which is Family Guy: The freakin sweet edition, 1 GB Memory Duo Pro which you need to save games, 1 UMD Game Daxter, the system itself in silver.

Fat:
-Cheap.

If you get a slim, get a phat battery+cover.
That along with playing games from the memstick will make the battery last insanely long.

Wait until E3 to see if Sony announces a new PSP, first. Apparently there's been inklings of a PSP-3000 model coming, due to files relating to a 3000 model found in one of the older firmwares.

also gonna install twilight menu in my r4 flashcard

One thing that just occurred to me.... The sound on the 2600 sucked less back then the harsh sound we hear now is from infinitely better speakers we have now, back when the 2600 was new speakers produced a almost muffled sound, like CRTs made old graphics look slightly better.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I wonder if I could recommend that to some emulation devs that perhaps the sound could use some smoothing out to simulate those old TVs
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think a few of the early systems could benefit from that, at least up to the 8 bit generation, by the 16 bit generation I think TVs had gotten a lot better in almost every way

It's old but it's the best firmware out for DS stuff

it says it only works for the original R4, R4i Gold (r4ids.cn), R4iDSN (r4idsn.com) and Acekard R.P.G.

    nvm it does support mine

Just give it a try, but honestly if you have a 3DS you can play DS games without a card just off the internal SD card
