Details are a bit sketchy right now and it seems it is running on some unreleased code but it seems this may be off the back of a Vita kernel level exploit.

There is actually a couple of videos; just saw one of a guy loading up and playing crisis core (had VHBL in the background if that means anything to anyone, though I know its that limited homebrew stuff).

Would be nice to finally get rid of my old phat psp and play MHP3 with dual sticks (WHY YOU NO RELEASE MONSTER HUNTER OUTSIDE JAPAN CAPCOM!).

Anyways, I'm hoping it is real, not only will I dust my vita off, but it might get the thing to sell a ton more without effecting the actual vita market for now (besides, if you bough a handful of psp games like me and my friends have, you wont have to stupidly re-pay for them again...at terrible prices).

    It has begun...
Edit: Just watched it... no warning yet... it might be a video... I still don't want to believe it's done so quickly.

Do you have a PS3? If you do you can just transfer over any psp content to the vita.

I'm happy with recent news that Vita is almost hacked. Sony forgot us so maybe hackers will give us some content.

Meh, I can play PSP games on PSP. Call me when there's homebrew running with full Vita capabilities.

Reminds me of those 3DS videos in youtube where people are supposedly running 3DS roms but never tell you how.

I do...but getting those darn UMDs in there is such a pain :P

I have about 13 UMDs sitting in a plastic bag in my dresser, and there's no way in holy hell I'm re-paying for them to use them on my vita (just wanna play them with the nicer screen and dual sticks for stuff like MH).

I can do without, but being able to play them with dual sticks and being able to finally trade all that crap in for a game like AC lib/soul sacrifice/killzone will be worth it. I'm sure the systems not worth much even for trade in, but its better than nothing and having to bring 2 separate systems when I go to my buddy's house.

It only goes to show Sony is better at copy protection, since 3DS played DS backups on release while PS Vita exploit for PSP backups only starts now.

What do you expect Nintendo to do, exclude DS compatibility? Not much they can do due to the nature of the DS carts. 3DS mode seems more secured and better be if they want to avoid DS history repeating itself again.

The video has been deleted because he's trolling you - what he's showing is a sham, don't buy into it.

Proper *ISO loading* in PSP-Mode requires kernel access - something that hasn't been achieved on the Vita yet via VHBL means. Years of development showed that loading ISO images in User Mode is at the very best buggy and isn't a viable method of launching backups on a PSP, let alone a Vita. Fair play, Davee claims to have Kernel Mode access, and I'm inclined to believe him, however I'm also inclined to believe that he did not share his findings with anyone who could use them as means of pirating games.

Launching PSP games via VHBL is entirely possible and has been shown a long time ago, however keep in mind that those games came from the PSNStore - they were not backed up ISO images.

I'm willing to believe that this video - whatever it showed - used the same method and its maker *claimed* to have booted ISO's, but the facts are that currently this is not possible and he's merely causing a stir, checking how many people will fall for it.

If this is legit, and I sincerely doubt that it is, we'll see more proof of its legitimacy. Until then, don't panic, don't cause a havoc, don't ask unnecessary questions.

The choice is simple - you can bite the trollbait and be a chump or you can wait for actual proof coming from legit sources. Hacks "found on Youtube" are fake 99% of the time, so no, that's not a legit source.

Davee is not the only person with a kernel mode exploit that works in the Vita's PSP emulator.

EDIT: Also, this was not "found on Youtube"; it was posted on wololo forums and pspking. The former thread has been removed, so I can't tell much about it, but the later was posted by "The Z", who is reasonably reputable as a source of info.

The pspking link also has a still existing copy of the video on youko instead of youtube, I'm watching it now:

    http://player.youku.com/player.php/sid/XNDQ5MjM2NTcy/v.swf

(can't get that display in the right dimensions)

For the record, this does indeed seem legit, and is not loading PSN bought games.

I've never heard, read or seen anyone else announcing that, but perhaps I missed it. I'll remain sceptical until hackers that I know voice their opinion. I also don't see why you're so sure that he's not loading PSN-bought games - if he uses an overlay, he can make it "look" like an ISO if he chooses to do so.

I have never found any homebrew capable of loading PSN bought games. Certainly not in user mode. That is enough evidence against your theory of an "overlay" for me. And just because they don't make a big deal about, doesn't mean they don't have exploits. I am 100% certain there are at least two other people who have kernel mode exploits, probably more. Almost certainly there are more that at least have access to them, if they didn't find them themselves (they could all be the same exploit, but independently found, I'm not sure). For example, an unknown hacker referred to as "tony" who featured in a few posts on wololo's blog. There are others too.

You're right - the PSN game being loaded was featured in Davee's video release about his exploit. My bad then - Kernel Mode. That said, I'm reminding you that at the time of writing my comment, the Youtube video was unavailable - now I watched it on Youku thanks to your embed. ;)

That said, I'm still skeptical - nowadays it's best to take everything with a pinch of salt, and you know that. I'm counting on backup launching capabilities just as much as the next guy - with no PSP-to-Vita transfer program outside Japan, it would make many lives easier. Sure, there's the dark side of the matter, meaning illegal backups, but I firmly believe that every user should be able to backup their content and play it on any device of their choosing as long as they're not sharing it and not using it on several devices simultaneously.

I'm not claiming to know everything - I'm merely cautious about what I see on the internet. ;) The video does "appear" legit, but appearances only take you that far. I'd rather wait for a proper release before I put a "legit" stamp on this one.

I don't tend to use Youku when there's an alternative - force of habit. :P

THE WHEEL OF FATE IS TURNING, REBEL 1: FIGHT!

Though this does seem neat as it is opening the doors very slowly to cooler things.
