I recently bought a PSP-2000 with the intention installing CFW on it, but I'm after searching around, i'm getting conflicting information about whether it's hackable or not. It's got 4.01 firmware, has an 8C under the battery and it has a "G" on the barcode sticker. Any idea?

QUOTEThat G is the letter in question. Here's a list of all the letters that the 2000 series ship with:
(No Letter) = 3.60
A = 3.71
B = Doesn’t exist
C = 3.72
D = Doesn’t exist
E = 3.80
F = 3.90
G = 3.95 (TA-088v1) / 4.01 (TA-088v2) / 4.01 (TA-088v3)

If the letter is absent or is from A to F, then it's hackable.
If it's a G, it's 60 to 67% Hackable (Though since everyone is looking for the hackable ones & no one’s buying the unhackable ones, I'd say that this percentage went all the way down to about 30% hackable).
Some Labels have an extra code written on it, usually “ss259”. That doesn’t matter, just look for the Capital Letter next to it.

You just MIGHT be lucky

Go to 5.00 OFW, and use chickhen and use PSPident to tell what mobo you have

The thing to do is: Update to official firmware: 5.03

Download ChickHEN + PSPident - Get HEN enabled - Run PSPident.
Now this little homebrew will show you your PSP its motherboard version.

Match the result with the picture here:

If your PSP is listed to be: Not hackable you will need to use ChickHEN + 5.03 GEN-A.
If your PSP is listed to be hackable you will install full CFW to it 5.00 M33-5 or 5.50 GEN-D2.

If you need further info on installing full CFW or using 5.03 GEN-A feel free to ask.

deanxxczx its OFW 5.03

The reason because you want to do so is because you want to know what firmware(enbaler) to use.

Please note: DO NOT UPDATE VIA YOUR PSP ITS MENU!

This will cause you PSP to update via wifi to 6.10 and render it useless if you have a unhackable motherboard.

By updating to 5.03 I mean to download the 5.03 setup (PBP) file from the internet.
Placing it on your memstick and running it from your XMB under your game section.

But yeh another way to see if it is hackable.
Would be if you have a mate of yours living close with a pandora battery.

If the pandora battery is inserted into the PSP and the backlight + power led powers on: Your PSP is hackable.
If so feel free to install full CFW via your magic memmory stick.

I have a PSP-2003 with a TA-085v1 motherboard. So yeah, I'm very, very lucky to have this one. Anyway, do what the people here have said and remember, to make it easier for yourself, you can download 5.03 OFW from my thread at the top.

Not at all.

Motherboards that are not hackable will not allow the pandora battery to turn on the PSP at all.
Meaning it could in no way damage the PSP it is just that it does not work.
In other words all PSP`s that accept pandora battery are fully hackable.

See proof here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DuJ8A9XAM4A
On aprox 0:40 he inserts the pandora into a unhackable slim.
