Hardware psp 2000 screen turns fuzzy/freezes then turns off after about 30 seconds?

Just got a PSP 2000, at first the screen wouldn't come on, I could hear it but just a backlight but now it does come on but after about 30secs the screen becomes fuzzy/breaks up and then goes off.
Not sure on the issue as have not seen it before?
Any ideas please?

Have you tested it with another screen? So we can eliminate a screen failure.

No, unfortunately I don't have another 2000 currently.
