If it's impossible to access online services on lower firmwares...does that mean it is impossible to use the browser? If yes how would one set-up Emunand if they can't go to go.gateway-3ds.com in their 3ds? If my current 3ds breaks will I be unable to set-up emunand on a new one?

I played yesterday online fine MHX and FF Explorers but I guess that today I can't. And I don't want to update my 9.5 emuNAND. :(
Why don't you want to update your emuNAND?..
ReiNand or CakesFW are as good as rxTools and it's the easy way...

You can launch gateway software from their .3dsx through the homebrew launcher for example.

I don't think it effects the Browser but if it does there's a DNS that you can connect to that bypasses it. I don't think there's anything Nintendo can do about that.

rxTools isnt even that good anymore :rofl2:

Its the only one with GBA support so there's that.

Then I'm actually glad that I accidently updated to 10.5 SysNAND anyway as all I use Homebrew for nowadays is to maybe play NES games or the Play Coin Extender

I had this problem. Just hold left shoulder button as ReiNAND boots and it fixed it for me. Now works without any problem
Which is skipping menuhax.

Would you mind explaining?

I'm booting reiNAND from The Homebrw Launcher which is launched by MenuHax.
So, if I hold L while booting reiNAND in this scenario, what would it skip?

Thx!

Get yo facts straight.

Reinand and cakes both start gba VC AND Ds carts out of Emunand, a thing rxtools hasn't been able to do for the past three months or so. Only the old 10-02 nightly of rxtools can do that but lacks region free, which is exactly the same as what reinand and cakes do now. Except they can go to 10.5 and Rx can't.

Menuhax on sysnand is what comes when you switch on your device. Menuhax on emunand is what fucks up your boot process. It simply doesn't belong there and it's a mistake to install it there. So holding override button while starting reinand will skip menuhax on emunand trying to boot and screwing everything up.

Gotcha!
So if you're coming from cold boot -> entrypoint (MenuHax, etc) -> Homebrew Launcher then reiNAND, you're fine and don't need the L.
I thought I was "missing" something...
Txh!

EDIT: I have unlinked NANDs anyway! I find it "safer"

yeah. but the regionfree one doesn't boot gba/vc or ds carts.

it's either one or the other. I'd rather take gba/ds over regionfree. Since I can just patch the last one or use in-region/rf titles while there's absolutely no way to patch gba vc or ds carts to work.

question (and possible solution)
is the file as referenced in https://www.reddit.com/r/3dshacks/comments/41yxsw/troubleshoot_solution_reinand_31_update_to_104/ essentially the menuhax file? here's the filename
delete the folder 000002ce/u/j (or 2de) from the emunand folder in the Nintendo 3DS folder

in which case I can simply delete that as it says in the thread, and then I should be able to boot. I could use hb to remove menuhax but I'm still not sure how HB will load when I'm using CTRbootmgr... kind of concerned it will rip it away from sysnand (though I do have an alternate means of entry)

edit: answered my own question, and that is yes. Deleting this folder removes menuhax. 2de is U, 2ce is EU, and 2cc is J
