Hacking PSA: Nintendo blocked the Sky3DS (partially) through new anti-piracy checks in their upcoming games

As I like being on current firmware (to buy eShop stuff and avoid any real 'hacks') Sky3DS is basically my only option. I'm not saying it's better than Gateway, I'm just saying it's better for me.

That's nice. I wonder if you will still like it when you can no longer play the newer games from now on

You're aware that GW works on N3DS and can access the eShop, right?

I didn't know that, no. However, if it can't work with my current console (which is already up-to-date with the current firmware) then it's not worth it to me. As I mentioned, I'm using this for convenience for my retail cartridges. I didn't bother with flashcarts at all until one came out that would work regardless of firmware version. Again, that's just me. I can appreciate others who are using flashcarts for other purposes that get way more value out of having a console with a specific firmware. For those folks, I will agree Gateway is probably way more useful.

Well as I mentioned if a new game comes out I want (TriForce Heroes comes to mind) I'm going to buy it anyway, so at that point it's really just not being able to play it on the Sky3DS and having to go back to the original cart which is only a mild inconvenience and only if I happen to be travelling.

Just wait for Sky3DS team dump out all their stockpile of blue button card, then you can have another color button card with AP check fixed

This makes me think, what if Nintendo have made the AP checks unique for every game title (not every unique game cartridge)?

Or what if they keep it the same for every game until Sky3DS releases a new coloured button card that works on them and then change it so that the even newer games won't work? This has to be software related, IMO.

its almost certainly going to offer up different responses per game, i guess it would depend on how the responses are calculated and if sky3DS can figure that out how they are and then properly simulate it......i doubt nintendo have opted for a one time response, i assume there would be a randomly generated inquiry/response verification so its more than just a simple "dump response and replay it back" they would either have to get the 3DS and genuine retail card to generate every possible combination of responses and include them in a file for users to download (think along the lines of the template file, and depending on how complex the code that goes into it is this option may even be unfeasible) or figure out the exact formula of how the responses are generated by the cart and emulate it.

if they ever do break past whatever this road block is hope they have the foresight to make the card updatable this time.....who knows maybe they actually have a hidden update mode programmed into the blue button cards, we all assume they didn't as they released a new card rather than issue a update for red button cards, but i guess its not impossible they just decided to milk people, or seen it as an opportunity to garner more sales from people who wanted the more convenient blue button card, but from their history even if they did have such a feature hidden in the card i bet they wouldn't just give their users a break and would probably just use it to update their existing stocks and force people to buy yet another revision if they wanted to play the newer games

ı heard gateway team has solved this anti piracy thing with new 3.4 update.
gateway have kernel access so they can just skip the check completely, they dont even have to understand why or how it works to bypass it, although i guess they probably have a good idea of whats going on

Does GW still needs to connect to wifi to work? Can't speak for anyone but for me it's a huge drawback, for example on lunch break I do not have access to internet so that would be a huge drawback and nope, I don't have and don't plan to buy a Android phone to use the exploit.

Sky3DS is still viable, it's not like suddenly every single game is unplayable. Even if every game from now on doesn't work, you still have a large catalog of games that do.

Gateway is definitely the best way to go if you are able to use it though.

I personally have both, but I only use the Sky for cubic ninja / oot exploit (it was just as cheap as getting a proper CN card, not even joking).

I'm not going to worry about these AP checks yet.

Whatever happens, I'm certainly not going to be buying a different coloured card.

Oh and if they do develop a new card, they should reduce the price. At least for previous customers.

My strategy to go the Gateway path, is to sell my 3DS (With a game), to buy an exploitable 3DS so I can use Gateway happily ever after. Not many people even consider this and act like they're FORCED to use Sky3DS. Ever heard of the Gerber Life Plan? Well this is the "Gateway Plan".
If you know how to use sites like ebay, you can sell things for higher prices than Gamestop.

I literally sold my 3DS XL for $200, and bought an exploitable 3DS for $220. Just a $20 difference but so worth it! It was brand new, unused still in the box which is a plus.

This plan might not be accessable for everyone though, but it's definitely possible.

This is what I plan to do to a degree. The exploitable 3DS is on it's way and in turn, CFW heaven.

Just not sure if I want to sell my Monster Hunter 3DS and Sky3ds yet. I could use that money and at the same time, it's not much.

Don't bother contacting Sky3DS.

When you ask them a question about a certain ability being added to their cards they neither admit nor deny it's possible.

The response I got, in the past, when stating this same thing was that "I don't have money".

Better get your 100 dollars worth of games out of it than.

Keyword being "hopefully". They're being passive about it just like I said. They don't want to lose their reputation.

Sounds like they need to figure out how GW did it, or decrypt and re-encrypt on the fly, or last but not least build a new card and charge another 100.

They went a step beyond that in my reply email and told me to use Pasta CFW.

We are still working on that game, anyway,
You can try "pastaCFW" to play Fire Emblem If on a Sky3DS, see details here:

Yup, they've hit a pretty big wall suggesting people to use third party products to play a game which Sky should be able to play. Imagine you paying $100 for Sky only to be told to use a CFW, now that's some deep shit irony right there lol :gba:
