First BD-J + Kernel access exploit provided by Sleirsgoevy (29/9/22)

Note: Though there are three USERLAND exploits and one KERNEL exploit, there are no public HYPERVISOR exploits available to complete the full exploit chain. A hypervisor exploit was rumoured to be held in private that only works on <3.00 firmware, and recently Flatz confirmed he has developed his own 2.50 HV exploit (kept private) which was chained from a PS4 save game, and has successfully dumped PlayStation Secure Processor (27/07/23).

As of August 4th 2022: We can now install PS4/PS5 PKG games and updates (and by extension FPKGs) however official PKGs cannot be run unless you legitimately owned them previously digitally and have a licence for them on your current console, or if you own the disc (for update pkgs).

As of October 6th PS4 FPKG can be played on 4.03 OFW thanks to Sliersgoevy FPKG enabler!

Payload: https://gbatemp.net/download/4-03-fpkg-enabler-hen.38248/

As of October 21st PS4 FPKG can be played on 4.50 thanks to cheburek3000 porting offsets.

As of November 4th ktuff is fixed for 4.51:

Payload: https://gbatemp.net/download/fpkg-enabler-4-51-hen.38306/

Nov 7th PS5 backups loaded via Itemzflow by Lightningmodz and Echostretch. Fully decrypted dumps require system files bundled into them in order to run without crashing with Libhijacker (no hen required), details here: https://gbatemp.net/threads/ps5-exploit-guide.613891/page-109#post-10290677

As of November 30th ps5debug has been released by SiSTR0: https://github.com/GoldHEN/ps5debug
Mirror: https://gbatemp.net/download/ps5debug.38333/

Dec 1st: first PS5 trainer (Dark Souls) is completed ready for the imminent release of REAPER Multi Trainer II by CTN.

Dec 25th: PS5 back up loading via ITEMZFLOW now released: https://pkg-zone.com/details/ITEM00001

As of Jan 2nd 2024 Sleirsgoevy has ported K-Stuff offsets for 3.xx firmwares.

As of Jan 4th 2024 LM had added 3.XX Kstuff to Itemzflow meaning 3.XX-4.51 is now supported for PS4/PS5 backups and dumping.
1: Never enable IDU mode.
If you do you will need to enter staff mode by holding L1 + L2 and tapping this combo: circle, cross, square, triangle, right D-Pad. Release L1 + L2 and you can access settings to exit IDU.

2: Try to stay on the lowest FW possible and wait it out for hacks on that firmware.

3: PS5 FPKGs cannot work as a hack for the a53 processor does not publicly exist to enable PS5 content as FPKG/PKG.

4: Installing legit game PKGs you do not own will not work, even if spoofed.

5: If you get stuck in a boot loop at the PS logo, this means the SNVS is corrupted (if hash check fails on boot this causes a “soft brick”).

It’s not “bricked”, just reinstall your current firmware RECOVERY PUP in safe mode!

Having a Kernel vulnerability like this FreeBSD one is only part of the equation. There is still a lot more work to be done by people way smarter than me to get 7.61 up to where 3.xx-4.xx is. EtaHEN is still beta at any rate and getting closer to what we are enjoying on the PS4 up to 11.00. One of the biggest hurdles, even on 3.xx-4.xx is easy ELF decryption that fully works for both PS4 and PS5 games. Even with having to use a decryption payload, there is plenty that doesn't work. Yet.

It is quite nice to see the PS5 jailbreaking scene pick up some steam.

Everyone should keep this in mind. Regardless of what happens with this latest jailbreak, it would still be advised to never update until the details about this exploit are disclosed. The latest BSD vulnerability would make this exploit even easier to explore for PS5 hackers.

Such a shame, there's PLENTY of <7.61 disc/non-disc PS5 slim on the market NEW.
Doesn't pppwn work until 8.20?
ngl pppwn sounds a lot better than buying a bluray writer+disc and burning my own BD
There is a difference between vulnerable and exploitable. Zecoxao had previously shed some light on using PPPwn on PS5:

Post automatically merged:

Can someone please explain what this restriction means in practice? libkernel and majority of syscalls??

To get a bit more technical than the previous replies, when looking at this code:
gist.github.com/flatz/5e12f75cdb210516d31df03069f7ed0a#file-graal-lua-L128 (not hyperlinking 'cause the board is auto-converting to media which displays the full code lul)

The code is importing syscalls that will be used later on. Sony has now made this impossible from userspace which is where this exploit and the majority of exploits run (PPPwn being a notable example of an exception as it runs entirely in kernel space from beginning to end). This means that future kernel vulnerabilities that require a userspace entry (webkit, bd-j) will be blocked from exploitation regardless of whether or not the system itself is vulnerable. TL;DR Sony reduced the types of exploits that can be used on the PS5.

I think that most of the S01-x439 (September 2023 Slims) are on 8.00

FW 8.00 released in september

But to activate the disc drive it still needs to be connected to the internet and do a system update if it recognizes it's on an old version?

Hopefully there'll be a way to bypass that annoying requirement. I bought an OG PS5 precisely because of using it without internet if I so wish.

And the OG PS5 Disc Drive Edition might gain more resale value as the PS5 Pro (or as I like to call it, PS5 Slim v2.0) was so underwhelming and overpriced ($700 really?). The dude told me his son didn't update the PS5 I bought so let's see what it arrives with. :)

Maybe someone can RE the authentication and spoof it somehow. Or patch it even requiring an update through kernel or HV.

yeah, i know that... Everytime i turn it on with the disk drive installed it shows the message to connect it. For people who would like to have a jailbroken console and hope that it will be possible without the drive, or maybe it can be married once hacked, this is for sure a helpful video. Best option is to find a new cfi-12xxA. The cfi11 and cfi10 are lmost impossible to find new and at a good price.
In Austria there is a marketplace and currently there are some new cfi-12 bundles for around 630€
It is getting harder and harder to find them every day.

I can't wait to receive my PS5. And what firmware it has. :)

Any of y'all recommend I buy custom face plates or are the originals good enough?

Surprised there aren't third party PS5 controllers made for the console after all this time.

Plates with holes can reduce the temps by up to -5°C you can also use the original ones, drill 80mm holes and 3d print a fancover. Just make sure to use a m.2 heatsink. The airflow over the m.2 ssd is reduced when you have holes.

Custom plates:

All these people buying 7.x slims.. wouldn't they have to hook it up to the internet to pair the bluray drive?
Can this be done while avoiding the update being forced from Sony? Anyone with experience please share

Oh thanks I'll buy those things then.

Why didn't Sony provide holes for the vents? Even the Pro has no holes either.

It looks like these videos confirm that you lose BD pairing after a factory reset:

Just a side note on Michael Crump’s buying recommendations from his latest video: For those considering the purchase of a used Slim with firmware 7.61 and an already paired Blu-ray drive, keep in mind that a factory reset should be avoided to prevent losing access to the Blu-ray drive. If you're buying a brand new Slim with a disc drive, you won’t be able to use its disc drive until you update it to the latest firmware. Therefore, a FAT PS5 is preferable at this moment. Any unit with a serial number up to S01-xx38 should come with firmware 7.61 or below.

Is it better to upgrade to a 2TB SSD? The PS5 was originally shipped with only 667GB usable storage space, even the box says 825GB than 1TB. 667GB feels too small so guess, yeah.

That's less than my PS4 Pro storage.

@amadeusrock shutdown the switch, remove the SD card and put all new files from Atmosphere, and Hekate github on it, (like that post linked to) then reboot using jig and TegraGUI, and push the Hekate.bin payload. (You update Atmosphere and Hekate by placing new files on SD card, that's all you do to update Atmos/Hekate)
