Originally planned for a release sometime this year, Ghostwire: Tokyo has been delayed to 2022. Developed by Tango Gameworks, the studio behind The Evil Within series, the FPS game was expected to launch as a PS5-exculsive title this year but the developers announced in a tweet that they have decided to delay the release:

It's a bit silly to think games shouldn't be released just because you don't have, or can't get, a console.

The PS5 has actually sold a very similar amount to the PS4 in It's first 9 months. It only seems like less because a lot more people want one and the supply can't keep up.
I don't think games should not be released, but postponed or become cross-gen.

If a game becomes cross-gen, whoever was lucky enough to get a PS5 will be able to play it without any problems, whoever is still on the PS4 is either because they can't find a PS5 or can't afford one (especially due to the pandemic that left many people in financially critical situations, especially in underdeveloped countries) could play on PS4 without problems even with an inferior version, Sony knows that not everyone will get a PS5 by now, it doesn't want to have low sales, so how I said before, a lot of her exclusives have gone cross-gen (with the exception of those that would never run on a PS4 like the new Ratchet and Clank), even games that have already been released exclusively for the PS5 and that developers said they would never run on an old-gen console like Godfall ended up getting old-gen versions after the PS5/PC version was released and there are strong rumors that the Dark Souls remake will be next, companies don't want to have low sales, that's the best decision.

Another way is simply to postpone the game until the problem is fixed and the installed base of the console increases (which is what many are doing), the company could launch it sooner, but it would risk having low sales due to the low base installed, not worth it in my opinion.

And you have to remember, it took a long time for the PS4 and Xbox One to have a decent amount of exclusives, I remember games like Metal Gear Solid 5, Rise of Tomb Raider, Persona 5, Battlefield Hardline, Dynasty Warriors 8, Yakuza 5, Resident Evil: Revelations 2, Dragon Ball : Xenoverse, Ori and the Blind Forest and many others still coming out for the PS3 and X360 and that in 2015/2016 when these consoles were over 10 years old, even games like Mortal Kombat X were initially going to be cross-gen but were canceled simply because they wouldn't run on these consoles, but what I mean is that companies know that people don't migrate from one console to another that quickly and don't want to risk having low sales when it launches, the best decision is to make the game cross-gen or postpone it until the console's installed base is larger.

So what you want is delays of every, single, game because you don't have a PS5. Okay. LoL. So everyone that DOES have one should be alienated and held back from experiencing next-gen titles to make previous gen owners happy? "NO MORE NEW GAMES ON PS5, PERIOD, UNTIL THERE ARE AT LEAST 100 MILLION PS5'S SOLD!!!" Yeah, that would work wonderfully. None of your posts really give any good, valid, reasons as to why they should hold off. It comes across as jealousy more than anything else.

It is simply the best option financially speaking.

It doesn't matter if you have a PS5 or if I don't have a PS5, it's a risk to release PS5 exclusives right now and companies know this, so either games are being delayed or going cross-gen to reach a larger installed base.

It doesn't matter if you're against it or if I'm in favor of these decisions they make, it won't change anything, companies will keep doing what they think is best for their game to succeed.

You know that the game being released now or 1 or 2 years from now won't change anything for me right? If the game is released now instead of having a delay, until I get a PS5 the game would already have some promotion or cutback price and I would pay less for it than you would for buying it now.

That's actually not true. You are basing all your assumptions on the idea that the PS5 install base is small and that simply isn't the case. A few weeks ago here in UK, Spider-Man: Miles Morales PS5 was the highest selling game and that included ALL platforms, including Switch with its massive install base.

No. Not the best option financially. It means ZERO sales until multiple versions of the game are complete. And who cares if it changes anything for you personally or not? Why exactly are we supposed to "realize" that if you bought a game later on it would most likely be discounted? That doesn't even fit in with your entire best decision financially bit. At all.
