Blu-ray drive issues. If your Blu-ray drive has any issues at all, you can't update anymore, they started that with 5.0, so if your drive fails they brick the console and say send it in for a 200 dollar repair.

They now have a Hardware check in every update, and if something is wrong with your bluray or a fan or something, they do not allow the update.

There is a ton of people affected. Some got through the 5.0 update, just to not be able to do 5.05, and even been reading reports people got through 5.05, getting the error now for 5.55.

Your telling me lol, I knew my BR drive failed, so I said whatever ER sold my physical games and bought digital only. Then they bricked it, where I can't play the digitals, because they require the update.

So my console is a brick. Had to buy another, so this one chilling at 4.73.

Pretty damn anti consumer, but what you do .

To make matters worse, they led us on forever. Saying there will be a fix for the users affected, then after almost a month they said. Okay the fix is, send console in for repair (which runs about 200 dollars all said and done) GRIMEY.

So can disc based games be installed using a pkg file and never have to use the disc again?? And i'm on 5.01 do i just grab the update PUP file and manually update through USB

I was also wondering this-can we install our games and run them off hdd without disc?

Yes, i was on 455 and updated to 505 and all games installed when in 455 work on my 505

I guess there is no way to use pkg using a external hdd, or it has been updated to 5.05?

This has been possible for a while now. Confirmed working on 5.05 from usb.

Nope. Buy a bigger stick mofo

64gb is plenty for starting out.

Apptousb and the sort should all still work fine, its just redirection of installed apps.
