Hello,
I have a Phat PS4 which has been flickering lately.
Today, when I turned it on, the audio was crystal clear but there was no video.
Even going into Safe Mode shows no video.
I've read online that I should rebuild my DB, or full reinstall the System Software.
With some help (I have 2 PS4s) I've "blindly" done both of these things (from Safe Mode; I'm sure they went ok since the PS4 restarted etc. and now, when I turn it on, the audio from the First Initialization comes on).
For some reason, the PS4 still shows no video.
I thought the cable was the problem, but it turns out it isn't.

Reading on some other Forums, I've found a "solution":
Someguy wrote to tighten the HDMI cable on the wide side and then go into Safe Mode.
Well, it worked (?) for about a sec, then the video signal wasn't there anymore.
I managed to "Change Resolution" from Safe Mode and, sometimes (when the PS4 reboots), after selecting (randomly) the Video Output Resolution, I get the "SONY" logo, then a black screen again (NOTE: The audio ALWAYS works and it's clear).

Should I replace my HDMI port or is this fixable somehow?
Thanks in advance for your help.

P.S. I've read online that the HDCP protocol sometimes makes this happen, is it worth giving it a try? (Will be harder to do since I have no video on, and will move according to my other PS4)

Sounds like hdmi port is knackered.

So replacing it should do the trick.
I just want to be sure that the GPU is okay, and haven't read anything online about it.
Is there any known problem related to the GPU?

Normally with GPU you see artefacts like weird colours and lines, after a while, and wiggling the HDMI wouldn’t affect that.

Since I have seen far more PS4’s with hdmi issues than anything else I would say it’s also hdmi socket related, but idk.

Just wanted to be sure it's not something related to the GPU.
I'll find somebody nearby (where I live) to replace the HDMI on the Motherboard

PS4 systems don't have GPUs, there is one main chip (APU) that handles both functions of CPU and GPU, and then APU fails on PS4 you get a problem known as BLOD: the system either only comes on for a couple of seconds and shuts off, or it continues to pulsate blue no matter how long you leave it on (light never changes to solid white as it supposed to do on a working system).
Based on your description, I would say you either have Video Encoder IC failure or one of pins of the HDMI port is pushed inside (look inside the port, if you can see all 19 pins are straight and in place, then the port is probably fine)

As far as I know, the Video Encoder IC failure is related to the WLOD, which I'm not having
All 19 pins seem ok to me.
The only thing I can say for sure is that the signal "works" for a couple of seconds after a normal restart, then it "shuts down" (the video signal)
I don't know if maybe it's something related to overheating, or something else.
It's strange that everytime (more or less) there's a video signal (Safe Mode, after rebooting from Safe Mode, etc.) the PS4 shows something, then black screen.

I've thought of maybe wiping the HDD and reinstalling the System Software, as (as I've read online) it could be due to a bad update, or something similar (I mean, theorically, video output either works or it doesn't at all. In my case every time I boot the console in Safe Mode I get the normal "menu" screen, then it disappears)

that's what WLOD means, system boots to white light (on top of the system), but doesn't display and that's what you have. If HDMI port is fine, then you have Video Encoder IC failure, the failing chip will produce the symptoms you're experiencing (show something at the start, then it disappears)

So replacing the HDMI Port will not help?

I also had my PS4 hdmi not working anymore (TV, PC, PS4, PSVR all fried the connected hdmi ports at the same time, probably a surge). I checked if the hdmi was easy to change, but like you said it's part of the mother board and I didn't feel like soldering or replacing it myself.
I decided to just buy a new PS4 pro instead (along with another TV 4k, pc video card and sony sent me another semi-working defective psvr instead, why can't they replace with a new one?).
doing the PS4 transfer was very easy, you don't even need to see any picture on the donor console, just plug ethernet cable and press power.

Kiiwii, I remember you asked if anybody had a broken PS4 but I didn't want to send a heavy package to UK. you said you seen a lot of hdmi failure, could you fix them? or use them for spare parts only?
