I've a massive PS4 collection I'd like to backup so I no longer need to insert discs everytime I play. The videos I've watched seem to indicate I'll have to wipe and start over my save data - is that true?

What if you backup all save data to a USB Flash Drive

I have a somewhat similar question, so I didn't want to open a new thread - if I play Bloodborne and finish it, and later down the road get the GOTY edition with the DLC - am I going to be able to use my saves or no? Will I be able to pick up where I left off?

And will these saves, created while playing backups, work later on when I go back on PSN and go legit?

Short answer: nope.

The backups don't have the same digest/passcode of the originals and savegames use that as key (or seed) when encrypting saves, it's done to prevent a different game/application to access a different savegame. The gamesaves would be considered corrupted by the system.

Aha... and what if I make a backup of the GOTY edition, and run it - will it recognize my vanilla saves?
