My main question is, while I know both can run backups just fine, the Super Slim has been stated as being able to run "some homebrew." Like, OK, which is it? Can it run RetroArch? All of the standalone emulators? What exactly is it supposed to mean?

Those are the questions I'd like some good clarification on.

I've been using CFW and now HEN 4.86. Almost everything runs fine and homebrew can be installed like Retroarch, Multiman, ...etc.
The only downside so far is that PS2 ISOs can't be run like old CFW where you just put them on PS2ISO folder, they have to be converted into PS2 Classics PKG format. And also you have to run "Hen enabler" every time you boot your PS3.

Super slim u have to enable Hen every time + more bugs (freezes more often)

Slim (ones that accept CFW) u don't need to enable the mod and less bugs yet it's louder.
