PS1/2 PS2 and Elgato with HDMI monitor?

I finally got a controller and memory card for my PS2 (of course, I didn't read far enough to see that the card needs MagicGate to use FreeMCboot). Now, I want to use my PS2 with my HDMI monitor, and for that I am trying to use my Elgato Game Capture HD using the MultiAV cable. However, when I have everything hooked up, and switch the monitor to the HDMI of my Capture Card, I get "Out of Range, 15.6kHz/60Hz". I can see the output of the PS2 in the Game Capture software, but it has a really bad delay.

Is there a way to force the PS2 to a resolution supported by my monitor, or do I need to get an active converter?

Not really. What you could do is this : set FMCB to always auto launch GSM at PS2 start-up. Then you would just need to exit GSM.
