PS1/2 PS1 PAL on PS2 US?

I am not sure if this is a dumb question or anything. But I want to play a PAL PS1 game on my PS2 Slim (I got the slim when it was released in 2004 I believe). Is the PS2 Slim Region Locked for both PS1 and PS2 games? and if so, what do I need to do?

Does this fall in category of Softmodding?

Thanks very much. However, I more interested in getting PS1 PAL games to work on a PS2 slim system.

PS1 games are region protected, but if you play the ones from the list they'll probably work. The best way to know if it'll work is simply try.
