    hey all,

i just bought a scph5502 pal psx off ebay for soldering practice and i put a modchip (this one) in it and the backups and everything work fine, but ntsc games are either black and white (on my crap tv) or completely munted colours (on my good tv), does anyone know if there's anything i can do to fix it

I do remember there was a color fix modders would do but I don't remember the details. There is also the option of patching the images for PAL before burning I guess.

EDIT: There is info here for 5002 http://fatcat.co.nz/psx/index.htm under install docs

sorry to double posts, but i just wanted to know if there's any homebrew (like a swap-disk) that would force the ntsc games to boot in pal60?

Probably the easiest way to go would be to just change your TV mode to NTSC.

    RF cable is the problem.

Get an RGB scart cable and it'll run everything fine in full colour, NTSC and PAL regardless of the consoles region.

that was first thing that came up in google search. PS2 RGB scart cables will also work as they have the same connectors as PSX consoles.
You will get a much sharper picture from RGB as well so it's definitely worth getting hold of one.

Yeah it will do. I had same problem back in 1997 when i first got a psx. RGB scart fixed color problems up just fine for me.

To make you feel safer about your purchase here is a quote from another site regrading the same problem you're having.
