Hacking Proper method for updating newer versions of homebrew

For instance, if I already have pkgj installed, how do I update to newer versions? Is it simply a matter of copying the new files directly over the old ones in the app data folder?

    If your throat closes, putting oxygen in your mouth will not solve anything - as you will be introducing oxygen prior to the area of obstruction
